No no no no no this is a disaster." and are now retooling the entirety of the marketing to make that clear.
Notice how before the leaks came out about Teela and Adam; none of the marketing mentioned this? They mentioned He-man and Skeletor, quite a bit. Then the leaks came out (which I don't think are leaks, I'm certain most of these are marketers testing the waters) and immediately the pivot happened. So now they're in a situation where the show was made to have this clever bait and switch but all of the marketing outright states that it's going to happen to piss off as few people as possible.
tl;dr I don't think it's malice, I think it's pure stupidity and we're witnessing in real time the damage control over it so people can't say they were fooled.
