The Walking Dead sales in comics at its peak flat out got rid of Geppi's debt
When it ended, Image had a sharp decline in profit (granted Saga going on hiatus probably contributed as well)
He's the modern American dream for comics
He's even doing it again with Invincible
Now ask yourself this, from 2010 to 2019 have you ever seen even a quarter of that success replicated (not just as a short lived sales bump like what The Umbrella Academy got)?
The only example from the top of my head would be The Boys for Garth Ennis
His more acclaimed title, Preacher, kinda just had its adaptation come and go without much fanfare in between
