I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the three main reasons they came into promenience were.
1. FDTG made fat threads bold again, blatant fat threads grew more common and they stopped lurking in dark corners.
2. The Charlie Threads lead to two major architects on deviantart posting links to the site. The threads ended up introducing dozens, if not hundreds, of new architects to /co/ board, many of whom stayed and continued to do it
3. The Trash Raids left that site increasingly unfriendly to fats, and since /aco/ was already a futa dumpster fire, the only place to come was here.
