>>123662000I genuinely don't, I'm instead endlessly frustrated with him. I liked his Mega Man, I like ideas he has in Sonic and even specific stories he did (mostly when he actually bothered to make small self-contained things rather than trying to make massive epics), I like the lore he's got going in Drogune (but again, that pacing, Jesus fuck man).
He could be a much better writer by now if he hadn't gotten asspatted by the Archie fanbase for a decade for the very daring quality of "is better than Penders", and he doesn't seem to be able to grasp the basic professional standard of "shut the fuck up and don't throw mud your colleagues", which he seems to do not out of malice but out of an autistic inability to just, again, shut up.
In my ideal world Ian would get kicked out of Sonic, find work in other comics, get a serious editor like Jim Shooter to kick his ass, improve because of it (especially in his glacial pacing), and would avoid becoming an embarrassing version of Timothy Zahn ("what, he wrote more than Sonic?"), which so far is the direction he's headed towards- eternal mediocrity getting by because of online autists going "well at least it's not Penders".
