According to the leaks, Edward Nashton uncovers a conspiracy between the city officials - The Mayor, the District Attorney, the Commissioner of Police, etc - and Carmine Falcone to privatize Gotham's water and energy services and decides to expose them. They attempt to have him assassinated, but only manage to kill his pregnant wife. Nashton then fakes his death and adopts the identity of "The Riddler" to kill the corrupt officials and expose their lies to the public.
