Me and my cousin have awful memories of Soarin. We actually rode it when it was brand new (not Grand Opening but still very close) so the line was about 2 hours and we were excited.

When we found out we waited 2 hours for a god damn gondala that just lifts you up while you watch a tv screen of what may as well have been stock footage of Earth, we were pissed to say the least. We both never rode the ride again and refuse to do so to this day.

I don't mind most of those because it seems like it's just a visual swap; hell if they made an Ant-Man one and it shot shrinking discs, I'd potentially even consider buy one. The era of Disney being the theme park leader is over. Universal is proving it's more dedicated to quality experiences and rides at this point. Compare recent Disney and Universal rides- Secret Life of Pets is full of animatronics and classic dark ride magic, while something like Navi River Journey is just riding through static scenes with screens before seeing ONE animatronic.

Disney's downfall is all thanks to Bob Cheap-pek. Removing live entertainment and downsizing/shortening anything left, building cheap and quick rides (that use screens more than practical effects), and focusing more on shopping and merchandise than rides and attractions all combined together to kill Disney parks. Now that he's CEO of the entire company, it's gonna leak into the other branches- prepare for cheap cashgrab movies and TV shows.

I get the feeling that the reason chapek went cheap is because he wanted to provide even more expanses and additions than they could handle. Essentially quantity over quality. For example, if they only did galaxy’s edge in Orlando I could see all the cut concepts would have stayed intact and been leagues better than it is now but he just had to push for them to open two galaxy’s edges simultaneously in the US which as we see was a huge flop. I think also the fact they were opening a huge park in Shanghai was another factor where a lot of the talent and budget was moved there so they could enter the mainland market. What’s funny is that because of the pandemic they now are canceling shit left and right because the parks were closed for close to two years as well as moving all their resources and budget to Disney plus to help that succeed. With chapek as ceo, I can see him taking that quantity over quality mentality to all things Disney so you’ll get more marvel and Star Wars shows no matter the quality (which were kind of seeing now).

i would like to confess that the only "Ride" I have done in the world showcase pavilion is malestrom/Frozen ever after.

please tell me im not the only one. i swear they barely even advertise that they have more than 1 ride in the whole pavillion, its treated as more of a Foodie place than a section with rides.

Every time I think about Galaxy's Edge and what could've been, I feel bummed. Both lands are so soulless and the one in Disneyland just ruins the park a bit for me. Something about having an IP-specific land in a park that's always been genre/themed-lands instead just bugs me so much

Recently watched Httyd 1/2 again. three isn't on netflix. I take back what i said earlier; Berk is pretty damn smart. The series has a decent fanbase of people who grew up in the 10's. all of which will be in their 20's traveling and with money to spend by the time Epic Universe was supposed to open up.

I don't think its harry potter popular but Httyd is known for three things pigs, scottish accents and gratuitous flying sequences. If they recapture any of those dragon flights in a rollercoaster berk is sure to be fucking huge.

They aren't going to prioritize Muppets over the annual Nightmare Before Christmas redecorating. And really, the special seems to exist more because Imagineering is actually in charge of the Muppets brand now. Five bucks says if the special's a success, they'll end up making a Muppet Jungle Cruise special because the guy in charge of all the recent Jungle Cruise stuff like the Christmas version, Skipper Canteen, and the new refurb is actually working on the Mansion special.

Because the Interactive Minigames/Bowser Jr. are a Perry the Platypus/Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom style scavenger hunt game. I feel like the Fantasyland castles can get away without an ride inside them since they can rely on anchoring the larger Castle Courtyard and attractions wedged into the castle walls, plus if you go too big for whatever you put in there, it throws off the proportions. Like the Shanghai castle interior is really neat with the Snow White walkthrough and that cathedral-esque grand hall, but it's just really boxy and ugly on the outside and the "McMansion-esque Princess Mashup" design philosophy doesn't help.

there's tons of attractions in general that are being lost to time. some are fully lost, namely those from before people had cameras on them all the time. disney and universal have the technology and money to preserve their stuff. people would pay mad money for a professional recording of rides, parades and live shows, and doing so would preserve them for history. Think about how cool it would've been to have recordings of now defunct rides, or older versions of rides that have been changed.

I got so bummed when Disney and Universal only included professional shoots of their ride (Haunted Mansion Holiday) and direct video (Back to the Future) once and then, as far as I'm aware, never did it again for other movies/rides. I think the movie shit being forced into the ride is much worse than any of the "PC" changes. I don't mind the food chasing or Redd, but I hate Jack Sparrow being there. The ending with him getting all the gold defeats the whole point of the original ride's story, where the pirates are all killed because of their greed.

For me, it's Redd's audio. It's just really clean and loud compared to the other audio they have playing in that particular section, so it just really sticks out like a sore thumb. Even if they had shows, only the shuttle stage by the gift shop has enough space to support a decent crowd, and even that'd cause issues with entering/leaving the gift shop on top of them snaking the lines right through that area. The other stage would block the flow of guests with a big crowd.

It's more complicated than you think. SW has a fairly binary look to it, either used future 70s scifi aesthetic or polished chrome and plastic 70s scifi aesthetic with very little canon material on exactly how the society lives and works. There is no shorthand like with the princesses where you can just go "ambiguously Middle Ages by way of Hollywood" and everyone knows exactly what you're doing. The shit like lack of shows and roaming characters isn't a unique issue to Galaxy's Edge, nor was them opening early without all the rides. At the end of the day SW doesn't really have a lot you can use to base an amusement park off of, and not a lot of easy merch ideas either, but at the same time you still have to make it recognizably Star Wars.

I think battu works as a location that you can just clump all your star wars stuff into. tying together geographically disparate parts of the setting. Can't have rain or porgs on tatooine nor can you justify a Bantha or a lightsaber seller on endor. The problem is that Things in star wars are just as chronologically isolated from each other as they are geographically.

The only things taking place in sequel era at the moment are the x-wing film and galaxy's edge. Can't tie into the mandalorian, can't have darth vader, can't have obiwan, can't have yoda, can't have clones, can't have ashoka tano, can't have luke skywaler, can't tie into the bad batch, can't tie into the high republic. 70% of the popular things in star wars are separated from galaxy's edge by a matter of decades.

Now if it were up to me i'd have galaxy's edge rotate through seasons. A third of the year is set during the clone wars, a third of the year is set during the galactic civil war and a third of the year is set during the race for galactic supremacy. Hondo ohnaka was alive for all three periods so smugglers run wouldn't have to change that much.

retheming rise of the resistance is harder but i think it could be done if you just built the ride to be different from the ground up.

They do the whole Busch Gardens thing where as they're a zoo park, they theme each area around locations famous for animals.

This was their new ride for the year in the vague Egyptian themed zone. Neat concept, spoilt a bit by it being a bit much for a tiny family drop tower.

I think this is the most fascinating aspect of theme parks and why i love stuff like DefunctLand, Abandoned, etc. There's this point where stuff changes or is removed/demolished/lost to time and the only record of it is old grainy videos, schematics or concept art. I love learning and hearing about this stuff because otherwise, most companies (ie, Disney) would have you believe the stuff never existed.

super heroes are probably the worst thing for an immersive theme park. The whole point of an immersive themepark is just to slot yourself in as a regular person. Harry potter does this well because you can just be a new wizard or the parent of a new wizard taking their child to diagon ally or hogsmeade. its very simple. Avengers campus means every one has to be a super hero. but not their super hero, a child soldier in tony stark's avengers militia.

A location like gotham city, metropolis, marvel new york or wakanda could work except for the need to build up.

Every time I went, the Justice League building was empty. Granted I haven't been since 2016/2017 so I haven't seen the new Cyborg ride, but the DC area was always so lame to me. This is kind of true, the resort is laid out very strangely imo compared to the more modern designed ones. However I think a lot of it is related to college program people like to be around other people near their age and resorts are where all the old hourly workers go before they retire to coast by till they can collect their pension.

Paint the Night was really good, and the better one, but Magic Happens is also really good. I actually prefer Magic Happens titular song to Paint the Night's "When Can I See You Again" cover, tho the remixes of Baroque Hoedown are really really good.

The only issue with Magic Happens is that it's so short- I think it only has 5 segments (Mickey, Moana, Coco, Frozen 2, and the Finale)

I've never been to the Disney parks in CA, but I've heard Cars Land is incredibly themed. Probably the closest Disney has to Harry Potter World in terms of accurate immersion, which is ironic

I don't know why but Disney take a really really long time to build their rides and they compound this by announcing them very early (as opposed to Universal who will actually start laying down track before confirming anything).

Mickey's Railroad in California was announced before it opened in Orlando and it's still not going to be open until 2023

This was the castle when I first went. My mum was pretty upset.
