There's a strange feeling of desperation to Finding Nemo, like the movie is trying too hard to be funny and cute, even hip at times ( stoner turtles saying dude ). Perhaps Stanton was feeling insecure when directing his first solo project, or maybe Pixar was feeling a bit overshadowed by the competition ( Shrek won the academy award over Monsters Inc and established Dreamworks as a serious competitor, plus Ice Age made Blue Sky into the new player in town ) Notice how it had more pop culture references and toilet jokes, including their first fart joke, than previous Pixar works. Normally when you receive a ban for something (or even a warning) it's time to reevaluate your posting behavior, but I don't think Sharktaleanon really understands what he's doing wrong here. If anything since his return he's been more triggered over "bad opinions" and thus even more likely to go off-topic. Fun fact : Shark Tale stayed at 1st place at the american box office for 18 days straight. It was the highest grossing film of October 2004. Only towards the end of the month it got overshadowed by The Grudge. Meanwhile, Robots only lasted 7 days at 1st place. Shrek 2 lasted 9 days. Incredibles lasted 14 days

He's a an autist with very strong opinions about certain films. He loves Shark Tale, hates, HTTYD and Shrek 2 and will usually come into any early 2000's thread to make his opinions known. This usually deevolves the thread into everyone fighting him while he posts increasingly offtopic. This wouldn't be horrible except he does to every early 2000's thread.

He's been at this for a little less than a year, but the mods are finally sick of him. They gave him a warning a week back and deleted some of his posts, but he disregarded it. Four days ago they gave him a three day ban, but he seems to think they were banning him for having a trip. Now he just got banned and has decided to ban evade.

The thing that makes ST so great is the enthusiasm behind it. That whole crew never worked with CG before, all of them coming from traditional animation. Bibo Bergeron, Bill Damaschke and Ken Duncan came from 2D films and never worked with CG before, while Rob Letterman, Janet Healy and Allison Segan were making their animation debuts. There was a lot of energy in that crew, and it shows in the final product

I find it admirable actually. As much as I think Shark Tale is mediocre at best, I think it is worth watching for Will Smith alone. Yes, it is very flawed, but it isn't "terrible". Like, Foodfight is terrible. Ratatoing is terrible. The Little Pandas Fighter is terrible.

I think STA should be admired for being this devoted to a particular film, as it'd help maintain some knowledge and memory of this media in future, and there's a lot about Dreamworks I didn't know until he mentioned it. And sure, I disagree with him on his appraisal of El Dorado (and I say that because I am a coomer for CHel) but, other then that, I appreciate his dedication and tenacity.

You got a look at the time period when this movie was made. Yes, Will Smith reached a plateau after Independence Day or so, but the early to mid-2000s was when Will Smith was experienceing a renaissanc. Hancock, I, Robot, Bagger Vance, Hitch, Pursuit of Happyness, all these movies put him in the spotlight. Yes, they're not perfect movies, but they were dumb fun.

And no, tis not Shark Tale that killed Will Smith's momentum, I'd argue it was After Earth. Oh, how i wish i could say that Robots is a great stand alone project from the early CG era like Sharktale is, but i can't. It's certainly unique and has plenty of soul in its aesthetics and designs, but the terrible story, weak characters, hyperactive pacing and hit or miss comedy ( mostly miss ) brings it down. I respect it for being one of the very few pre 2000-2006 CG films to never get a sequel alongside Sharktale and Chicken Little, but it's just not a good film. I do wish it was tho, cause there's a lot to admire here in the visuals department

You gotta give credit to Chicken Little in one area : It was the only CG film of 2005 that didn't have celebrity names on the poster for marquee value. Robots, Madagascar, Valiant and Hoodwinked all did it, but not this one. Even during this celebrity driven era for animation, Disney showed some integrity.

Little story. A few days ago, i took the opportunity to do something i've been wanting to make in a while but kept delaying : watch The Dark Knight for the first time. So i did it.

It's overrated. I was not emotionally invested. Ledger's performance is amazing and it's definitely a well written script with a lot of thought provoking elements, but it still left me cold. Nolan forgot to give it a real heart or some levity. Everything is too serious. A little comedy or joy never hurts anyone. It's not a bad movie, but i'm not rewatching it in a while. There're plenty of great moments ( bank robbery intro, joker scenes, ferry scene ) but also a lot of dead spots. Too many

They both made more by an absurd degree in the long run. #1 in the Box Office isn't exclusively due to popularity, there's also factors like what month the movie is released and what other movies it has to compete with during it's theater run. Just saying "It was number one in the box office!" is completely useless on it's own especially when it is outperformed quite easily.

Imagine thinking that Shark Tale is the worst Dreamworks film ever made. It wasn't even their worst work at the time, since El Dorado, Joseph King of Dreams and Shrek 4D were already a thing by then.

Seriously, El Dorado is bad : uninteresting and cookie cutter characters, weak and dumb story, no message or positive values, tone deaf writing, generic designs, forgettable songs that don't mesh well with the narrative, distracting CG, unfunny jokes, filler scenes like the ball game, slow pacing, raunchy comedy that doesn't belong in a PG film aimed at kids, unsatisfying ending, plot holes ( how did the map to El Dorado end in the hands of that spain guy from the dice scene at the start ? ), innocuous and silly jokes that mostly miss the mark, restrained character animation, oversaturated color palette, zero character development, lame villain, etc

Prince of Egypt was really good. Not flawless, but still really good. Unfortunately, none of the following films with different writers, directors and producers were remotely on par with it. El Dorado was bad and one of the worst mainstream 2D films out there, Spirit was pretty but also boring and filled with weak Brain Adams songs, and Sinbad is as generic and middle of the road as it gets. Joseph King of Dreams was also sloppy and rushed.

It seems to me that said department did an outstanding job with PoE because they wanted to defeat Disney at their own game. After PoE failed to be the blockbuster Katzenberg was hoping for, they just stopped trying to beat Disney and settled for mediocrity. Notice how none of the following films look on par with PoE in terms of animation ( Sinbad almost looked like a direct to dvd project, plus the CG environements and creatures had hideous textures ) That hand drawn department made a wise decision in switching to CG, starting with Shark Tale and Over the Hedge.

El Dorado and Quest for Camelot are some of the worst 2D mainstream western films ever. Crummy Disney imitators that fail to compare to even the weakest Reinassance film. Songs are bad, stories don't engage, characters aren't interesting, emotions are lacking, etc. I hate how they've both gotten a cult following over the years, cause they don't deserve it.

I believe CG animation films went downhill in quality with Finding Nemo and Shrek 2. For a moment in late 2004, there was a brief resurgence in the form of Shark Tale and Incredibles, but soon enough things went back to lousy mediocrity in 2005, only much worse ( starting with Robots )

What went so wrong with Robots ? Ice Age was good. It was darker and less sanitized than Toy Story 2 and Monsters Inc ( which is why it got rated PG instead of G like those ) It seemed that Blue Sky had the potential of being a decent alternative to Pixar and Dreamworks, being not as adult oriented as the latter while not as family friendly as the former.... yet Robots flushed all of that potential down the toilet by being an innocuous, childlish and pop culture heavy Dreamworks imitator with none of the bite from its predecessor

Ice Age was the same thing as Toy Story : Chris Wedge and John Lasseter were both CG veterans who previously directed a couple of short films ( Bunny, Luxo Jr, Tin Toy ) before directing the first theatrical films of their respective studios. Both which were massive hits. Difference is that whereas Lasseter went on to direct Bug's Life, which is a pretty good film, Wedge killed his reputation with Robots.

guy is genuinely one of the posters from here that I just find unsettling.
