I'm too autistic to feel faith but I feel culturally aligned with Christianity, and have always really liked studying the Bible. The history of its translations, edits, and curation is fascinating unto itself.

Preachers can give people insight and perspectives they wouldnt otherwise have, but if all someone's willing to do is listen to speeches and then go about their lives then the "right" preaching wouldnt have helped them anyway. Finding the meaning of scripture in a way that actually helps you personally work towards salvation is mostly a matter of personal introspection/meditation; if you put effort into understanding not just what the Word says but why it says that- in terms of theology, history, archaeology, et al.- then either youre equipped better yourself morally or at the least you might find some peace of mind. If other people are content to not think critically about what they believe that's their misfortune and none of your own.

Speaking of the Archie series, I found it quite interesting that Christianity, and The Bible consider homosexuality to be a sin punishable by eternal damnation in Hell, but look who they included in one of the Archie comics.....

That's a generalization if ever there was one. My church is modestly sized and poor, and I can't recall a time any of us sent people off to war. Our concerns are mainly adhering to God's Word and looking after others.

Depends on which element of christian history you're focusing on. A lot of the infighting was people trying to break away from roman catholicism or reform it because of the corruption and pope wars that strayed far from the Word of God to begin with. People were tortured, drowned, killed, etc. just for wanting to follow the Bible as written instead of how it was interpreted by the vatican or ruling class of the time and location.

The Old Testament is full of examples of God's people not following His Word and He sends people to try and fix things, but in the end it's up to people to decide whether they want to listen or not. As for the people who followed a skewed word, that is up to God to decide but He's not unjust. I don't think He would damn someone for unknowingly following a false teaching. In the end, all bad teaching falls apart, but new ones could arise which us why it's important to study and adhere to God's Word as best we can.
