>The only real change she had was at Reunion, which coincidentally, her being a doormat to Sasha is only revealed there. Episode 2 hinted at that, but that's it, a hint. It was incredibly obvious in Best Fronds that Anne constantly appeased her friends even if it made her unhappy just to maintain their friendship, even before the lake scene, we see her friends encouraging her to steal the box which was what kickstarted the events of the series in the first place. Then later on in the season we get more examples, like how her friends made Anne their messenger whenever they wanted to breakup with someone. All of this served to demonstrate Anne's skewed view of friendship which she grows out of when she lives with the Plantars.
>If you want to really boil down the plot of S1 it'd be>Anne gets into Amphibia and is then found by the Plantars>Anne fucks around and often finds out>Anne reveals to the Plantars the box>Anne tries to find out more about the box, loses it, HP gets it back then buries it>Anne and Sasha reunite, Sasha bullies Anne, Anne says no courtesy of Sprig, Sasha almost dies>And that's it. 40 episodes and we barely get info on the box and the world at large. All those plot elements really come to ahead in S2.Did you skip most of the episodes in the show? You conveniently leave out the episodes where Anne's growing relationship with the Plantars and townies all come to a head, Toad Tax where she finally learns to try to earn Wartwood's acceptance through her own merits instead of having it handed over to her in the form of a Toad badge and Anne of the Year, where the Wartwood townies finally come to respect Anne for how much she's grown since she arrived.
There are even mini-arcs where the Plantars' relationship and reputation with the townies grow like Hop Pop with his stand or Sprig and Ivy.
