The biggest disappointments to modern universal are definitely the lack of practical effects and the over-reliance on screens. All of the effects show type attractions at Universal are now gone. You may or may not miss this but all rides are now fully immersive in-universe, You won't get Bill Paxton getting comically serious telling you how bad tornados are and rides no longer end with "aaaaand cut". In addition to the screens, there are clone rides in the parks (assuming you're talking about Orlando), Terminator and Spiderman are very similar (both good mind), Kong and Fast and Furious are also similar (Kong is passable due to them putting some effort into it, F&F is terrible).
On the plus side the technology behind the rides is amazing, the theming is leaps and bounds better (Diagon Alley is incredible), all the Harry Potter rides are great (even the glorified monorail is neat) and if you like Rollercoasters you now have a reasonable selection of them, including the best family coaster in the world in Hagrids.
Word of advice. Don't be tempted to youtube the rides, try to experience them knowing as little as possible.
