The military told him that he was the best of the best and asked him to be the new Captain America. He had his doubts as seen in episode 2, but people just kept telling him what a special boy he was and that he DESERVED this. And, being the dumb idiot he is, he believed them.
Walker expects a completely inflated level of respect and success to just sort of... naturally come with the job. That's what Captain America does, right? He wins. So now that Walker is Captain America he should be like that too, but he isn't. And that disconnect between expectation and reality is driving him up the wall because he doesn't know what he is doing wrong. He can't stand failure.
Battlestar gave him bad life advice, but he kept Walker grounded in the heat of the moment. With him gone, Walker is a dog off his leash.
