>>122284031I think you're thinking way too deep into things. The trend of giving nephews, sons, and clones to cartoon stars has been a thing since the Golden Age of theatrical cartoons. The most notable example is Huey, Dewey, and Louie as Donald's nephews but Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny had their nephews while Goofy got a son in the 50s (later turned to Max in the 90s). There was certainly a renewed trend of doing this in the later 70s to some point in the 90s but there giving cartoon characters children to take care of has always been a thing.
Also, I don't think Tom is thinking of the idea of NEET Skippy being some representation of modern toons being targeted towards "manchildren". I think it's more of Tom and his oldest son (Nate) thinking of some way to get the later to reprise his role when he has gotten too old to play child-aged Skippy.
However, your idea of Skippy, if tweaked to make him more clingy than a manchild, could work if limited to a few shorts at most before he starts at least trying to live on his own.

>>122287418Blame that on Warner not doing much to keep the Looney Tunes in the public eye over the last 20 years or so than the kids themselves.
