Check out the Star Wars Youtube channel, you'll quickly see a pattern with both the designs and the bios for the characters in the High Republic. Add to that when it was touted that Star Wars writing team was incredibly "diverse" and it was nothing but white women, fat white women. A literal rock called "Geode" as the pilot of a ship called "The Vessel".

they should've focused on 1 or 2 new leads but because they wanted to make a Jedi for every demographic they just dumped everyone out there at once, they're still releasing an intro video for every new character or group and they aren't stopping anytime soon, and the thing is no one cares.

they cant break 200,000 views for new character introduction videos, and about half are under 100,000.

but in all seriousness, there are a lot of ways to look at it and unpack whats happening behind closed doors. HR is being steered by a lot of urbanite/onions/redditor types. Pale, unattractive, out of shape hyperaware of the politics around them. These are people that try to use a bunch of university bullshit like "visibility" in their vain attempt to deliver some sort of deeper level of authenticity that isnt there. It's disheartening because we've all seen this before with marvel, with DC and with the countless woke indie bullshit thats been attempted and failed over the last 15 years. Except this time its being done with star wars canon, meaning that this is what the old republic is now for good.

The book itself is 3 issues in and its hot fucking garbage. The story is jittery. The writer can't decides if he wants to use word bubbles or splatter each page in a couple words and make the reader play connect the dots. Nobody seems to know how to draw backgrounds either. It just doesn't feel worth 3.99 for 28 pages of this.

Disney seems like they use marvel as a cheap and semi-profitable way to test ideas before committing large sums of money to a new cinematic/media project. Hopefully the steady drop of readers will show them that High Republic is best left alone in it's current form.

Disney were going to go full Young Adult Novel
with Star wars when they bought it, because they already had the teenage boy demo locked with Marvel, little girl demo locked with the princess movies, little boy demo locked with disney xd, they needed the teenage girl Young Adult Novel demo, they wanted to turn it into Twilight and Hunger Games, and thats what they did. But because everyone hated that choice in live action, they've moved it straight in the Young Adult Novel realm.
And the old Star Wars realm has returned to live action.

Thats not 100% star wars fault. You dont want too many MCs that would require heavy costuming for a live action project. Its hard to transmit emotion through fake masks and skin prosthetics even worse to try to do it through cgi.

So while yes, those are valid points. I'm gonna counter with the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Golum/Smeagol. It's very much possible to get a cgi character to emote on the same or near the same level as a real flesh and blood actor, it just takes time, effort, and a lot of computer magic to make it work believably. For heavy costuming Pan's Labyrinth was a god damn beauty to see visually and the actor who wore the Pan costume did some damn fine work there as well. It can be done, it just needs more skill and quality control then Kennedys Hack team can manage.

Star Wars fans who bought comics are a niche within a niche and Disney completely failed to change that. Meanwhile, these comics are looking for an audience outside the fandom but are finding there aren't anyone there. Prequel stories largely only interest the most hardcore fans and High Republic ain't targeting them as Disney is taking them for granted.

These comics suck because they're written poorly by junior writers with high deadlines and low editorial control. The original stories include space nazis and a rag-tag group of freedom fighters of different races and species, whose most well-known commander is a woman.You can get roe 'Muh SJW' than that

To be honest, i myself am not thrilled with every new force user being "The strongest Jedi/Sith ever". Part of what i like about Kotor 1 and 2 is that 1, what made Revan dangerous was his capabilities as a general and statesman, rather than his raw force power, and 2. Kreia's talk about the true Sith masters of old being a lot more powerfull than the current riff-raff running around proclaiming themselves to be Sith

I guess because that's the main content of HR. I decided to skim some of the comics right now and so far my first impression is "too much stuff at once", especially with the two titles, the main one and Adventures

And while I'd say Adventures has an interesting Fox and a Hound main plot, the art was ridiculously crowded with even poorer coloring
