I never got around to this issue when it came out, but I know that Steph's traitor things was just a ruse, and I have a hard time believing that Cass couldn't see through it. Considering that's her whole thing. In the OG run she was able to spot a shapeshifter with perfect transformation otherwise.

The game has different outfits/armor upgrades that change the look of characters. Though I believe that's the vanilla outfit, and I have to agree that it's dumb by Robin standards. Though Babs without a cowl will always take the cake for the dumbest costume for me.

Not that Cass has latent Year 3000 Karate powers that she passes down or anything: but that her abilities and later teachings are a factor in advancing Martial Arts techniques forward. Her abilities and feats are pretty much unlike anyone else's so far - so it would make sense that she's the next step in fighting ability for humans and that Karate Kid's abilities have been indirectly influenced by Cass.

Even in the chair, Babs wasn't afraid to tell Steph when she was being an idiot. And Cass' usual reaction was to one-punch Steph and deal with the problem at hand herself. Which is something they should have evolved beyond by now, but that's neither here nor there anymore. They need to develop a dynamic, but in order to do so they need narrative space. And without a Batgirl(s) book, we aren't likely to see that.

I definitely agree on Bette becoming part of Nightwing’s cast, but I don’t really agree on the idea of completely separating her from the Batgirl legacy considering she started it in the same way Jay Garrick and Alan Scott started the Flash and Green Lantern legacies respectively. On top of that, continuity changes since CoIE have made it impossible for Bette to have been Batgirl. Well, she only became the Oracle because she was a cripple. And this title is a reminder of that, and the last thing ex-cripple wants is to be reminded about it on a daily basis. Now that she's no longer a cripple there is no need for her to sit in front of a computer all day, especially now when the tech has moved on and she can coordinate people via a smartphone. She can very easily be Batgirl who does mission control and information brokering. Of course, DC doesn't get that.

Jessica Chen is also editing Nightwing, so she definitely has Tom's number. Plus everyone liked his Steph and Cass in dceased, so he has fan support on his side.

Also literally no one liked that Batgirls story, not even the hardcore Cass/Steph fans on twitter (people on twitter are annoying and don't like shit, I know it's surprising) so I don't think she's coming back.

Especially since the hiring of writers and the stories they write have to go by Tynion, the bat group editor and the EIC. It's part of the reason I don't think Vita is getting hired for the ongoing. It's also part of the reason I don't think Steph and Cass are going to be a thing. Jess Chen likes it, but Future State was a really hands off whatever who cares type event. She could slip her ship into an event that didn't matter, but many of the writers at DC have been writing Tim/Steph for years now - including Tynion. To get Cass and Steph together they'll need to break up Tim/Steph and that ship has way more fans than Steph/Cass.

I would call it lame for sure, but it wasn't terrible. If anything, it was just bland. That kind of story could have been done in one issue in the 1970s, and two in the 1980s.
