>>122067170>as badI'd say they were both bad for different reasons. Johns tried using Watchmen as a jumping off point for an event comic, something the original novel doesn't lend itself well to. He tried copying Moore's storytelling without really understanding how Moore used the 9 panel layout to facilitate it. At best, Johns wound up creating some okayish OCs that will likely never see the light of day again.
HBO's Watchmen was better constructed and had some really good characters and episodes. However, it's not really interested in being a sequel to Watchmen. It takes what it needs in settings and backstory and goes in its own directions. It discounts what's established in canon or takes the opportunity to replace the ambiguity Moore left behind for it's own truth. And that's not even getting into how characters from the original act in this series.
I haven't bothered with Tom King's Rorschach, but I am curious how far along they'll continue this string of sequel baiting/universe expanding of Watchmen will continue. I mean, they've got two sequel timelines now.
