Did anyone else get the impression he did it partly out of spite? Comprehending Veidt's plan totally broke his spirit, but the viciousness he attacked him with here to me seemed like he was indulging in his personal hatred of Blake and what he stood for. Doing it himself especially, all the other steps of his plan were so passionlessly devised and calmly executed. Like he needed to hurt him before he died.

The comic's fights weren't supposed to be impressive, the whole point is that "real superheroes" would look ridiculous and wouldn't be nearly as impressive as the average comic book portrays them as.
Snyder, as is par for the course, completely missed the point and just went with whatever he thought looked cool.

Just seems weird with how above it all and trascendant Veidt attempts to be. He genuinely mourned the people of New York he slaughtered but he felt he had no other option but to sacrifice them. He could have just left Blake to drink himself into a stupor before Squid O'Clock with no downside, but he was still fuming deep down at something the prick sneered at him almost twenty years ago.

For all his perfectionism he still had to have the primal satisfaction of feeding the old man his own teeth before he turned him into street pizza. For something so crucial to the plot people rarely talk about how Veidt got his hands dirty here with such relish.

The Comedian was a sociopath. A rapist who murdered his pregnant girlfriend. And even he broke down in front of his worst enemy over the plan. No, he had a logic reason to do it in conjunction with his personal vendetta--knowing that the Comedian is father to Silk Spectre, it's conceivable to think that he might try something to stop it to save her, or try to tip her off about it in order to save her, which might, in turn, lead to his discover.

I don't think that's necessarily true, is it? That seems like something that somebody such as Veidt would find out with ease early into his investigations of the other Watchmen. Unless I'm misremembering a part where it was specifically stated that nobody else is aware of her real parentage.

The only reason he killed Comedian was because Comedian stumbled onto the island by chance, he didn’t even factor Rorschach in until he started snooping around anyway. The only person he actually planned to get rid of was Manhattan. So not only is there zero mtoive, reason, chance or implication in the book that Veidt would’ve looked into Comedian’s past, but there’s literally no way he would know either, because it was a secret kept even from Laurie and happened literally because Comedian just knocked on her door one day out of the blue and they shagged.

Now that's just blatantly wrong, I'm almost certain. He prepared himself to deal with each and every one of them, there's no way he didn't research each of them on a personal level while doing so--it would be abundantly useful for said preparations.

Alan Moore missed the point of this and ended up giving us a bunch of plot and shit, which completely goes against the reality that superheroes in real life would just be dumb and pointless and boring. No, retard, you need to reread the book. Never once anywhere in the book does he “prepare himself to deal with them.” His plan only involved dispatching Manhattan. The only reason he had to take-out Rorschach and Comedian was because they stumbled across his actions which he knew because Moloch was one of the people he gave cancer to and so he had his apartment monitored, not because he considered them a threat from the start and made contingencies against them. He didn’t even acknowledge Laurie’s existence until she shot him, and that’s because he had no reason to whatsoever.

...and he's specifically ready to deal with Nite Owl and Rorschach when they arrive, combating their moves because he knows them like the back of his hand. Researching the potential threats among the Watchmen was definitely among the preparations made for the plan, just like catching a bullet. And, like I said, her parentage never came off as that much of a secret to anybody willing to take a closer look.

Literally just your headcanon. He’s eating a meal when they catch him, the fact he won is because he’s a better fighter and because they quickly give up to discuss the matter instead of fight it out, not because he learned their fighting styles like a typical comicbook villain.

Anon, I've realized that it's not specifically stated, but has anything I said not followed thru with how Veidt executed his plan? He accounted for every detail he could, it'd be sloppy to not look into the other members as threats to the plan, then preparing a means to combat him. It's specifically shown how he never wants to be taken off-guard like he was against Comedian, so it's only natural he'd over-compensate so he could take anybody down effortlessly--like he did. It's headcanon, but it's based purely off of how he acts in the comic.
