The dinner party episode shows that having Terry be the straight-man with the humans (The one blending in) and Korvo fucking it up in some way works, so they have a slight formula they can follow in the future for filling episodes.
The wood city episode (and to some extent the episode with the aliens in london) shows that removing humans from the equation brings a lot of fun with the aliens too since their personalities shine on their own instead of having to play off "Oh we're aliens, we don't get human stuff/humans don't get us" shtick that there was too much of in season 1.
This season was a lot tighter and shows this concept can work and improve too and it's coming into more of its own thing.
I feel like season 1 was so lackluster because it was trying not to just be a rick and morty clone because people were going to make that obvious comparison, instead of embracing Roiland's contributions to RM and bringing them to this show.
>>121870554I was cool with it once in awhile like when they called themselves out for the wall being the "best part" of season 1 in episode 2, it was subtle but good, but there's a lot of 4th wall breaks talking about Hulu and sometimes I don't get if we're supposed to treat the aliens like they're actors on a hulu show or what. But hey, they showed they can take criticism and apply it so hopefully they'll break the 4th wall slightly less next season.
