>>121747827I think that the less people respect something, the more willing they are to make the kind of stuff that would put others off. The people that make this claim to be huge fans, but that's only because they like the idea of the character or show. In the same way that some chump gives money to a webcam model and moderates her chat claims to respect her, but doesn't really. He only knows what she claims is true in her chat, and then when the real truth comes out, they can't accept it. And they can't accept having ever liked her, so they resolve their cognitive dissonance by disparaging her and calling her manipulative instead of just accepting that they made bad decisions.
If you're going to draw some stuff that's messed up, admit that it is. Show it only to people you trust, or better yet no one at all, instead of the entire internet. And don't ever let a fandom consume a chunk of your daily routine. If you have that much time to spare, look for entertainment and media that's so good that you have a legitimate respect for it and couldn't bring yourself to ruin it for yourself in any way. I drew some raunchy shit of this show to get laughs, because to me, I can't ever take pumpkin-headed cartoons having sex seriously. It's funny on its face. But my mistake was posting that stuff on 4chan's /trash/. I see cartoons as toys to be played with, basically. They're fun to draw, but I can't build some parasocial relationship with them, that's crazy. Around three years ago, called it quits on that stuff. I'll still draw the characters occasionally, but I've been devoting more of my time to finding good music and movies.
