I am annoyed that Darkseid got nerfed on this. Not only it is him (not Steppenwolf) who gets thoroughly owned by the earth alliance in the past, but the three motherboxes on earth are ALL he had.

I actually thin Cyborg was my stand-out with all his scenes restored along with Alfred for the same reason, Steppenwolf himself coming in third.

My favourite scenes had to be Superman tanking the axe to the neck and kicking the everliving shit out of Steppenwolf, and seeing Apokalypse.

Well, gods can kill gods. He is the 'godkiller', too, born for that purpose and probably intended to kill Ares because Zeus knew what was coming. Her defeating him with a specific powerset we've only ever seen her use once and versus Ares doesn't speak of her ability to fight Darkseid or Ares ability to defeat Uxas pre-Omega. You can see in the movie she can't take Steppenwolf one-on-one or even two-on-one, so it's pretty clear she wouldn't be able to stand against Darkseid.

My favorite character was probably the Flash? Cyborg was the MVP, with the best character arc, development and acting but Flash got some of the best scenes (saving Iris, reversing time, both prison visits) and I loved his energy. A good balance being a wide-eyed enthusiastic rookie, but also an equal and valuable member of the team.
As for the scenes, I should also mention the Superman scenes on the farm, I loved the touches of Clark contemplating his childhood and family, just having him take in the moment, appreciating life for the gift it is.

Fights are better done. It overall feels more intense. It is way too long and drawn out but it kind of had to be that long to even be at the quality it was without making just a whole new movie.

Its not that, its that they were activated with Silas turned one on to bring Cyborg back and then remained dormant because they knew the kryptonian would be too strong and could potentially defeat darkseid's invading army / stop them from doing the Unity so they waited for him to die before activating.

The point is them ignoring it entirely. They had no idea Earth was still primitive since Steppenwolf had that scene explaining it to DeSaad. I get not thinking the Anti-Life Equation is there too but given how badly they jobbed (at least one ship was brought down and Darkseid couldn't even escape without help) you'd think they'd at least make a note to bring a bigger army for this specific planet if they're still coming back to it.

Character
Cyborg was way better done and I actually really liked Steppenwolf. He actually felt threatening and actually had a character motivation beyond "M-mother untie us".

Scene
Flash's time travel scene was really cool, and I actually felt emotion in a Snyder movie when Cyborg's dad died. I also loved how Darkseid didn't even flinch when they literally throw his servants head at his feet. Made him feel powerful

I think the new gods stuff was neat. Loved Granny Goodness actually appearing, and loved how utterly larger than life Darkseid and his whole empire felt. But I really think he should have felt more threatening than he already was. Like Darkseid should feel like the end of things, a god. Not just a space tyrant.

If they do a sequel which I doubt, they should stick with the Legion of Doom plan with more cuts to the Knightmare future and have it all coincide in the third one with Darkseid

The Steven Wolf armor and how it would move around, react to his emotions, etc was really cool. I was worried the CG for him would be garbo but it looked amazing in 4K.

You underestimate how petty Hollywood execs are. Even this happened only because of AT&T. However, that's exactly why a bunch of HBO Max shows are a viable option to continue the story. They still need to beef up their catalogue anyway, the kind of oversaturation Disney is unleashing in comparison is plain insane.

Exactly, before he took the throne means his older self before he ascended... Diana only went by what those ancient human heiroglyphs illustrated, the flashback footage clearly shows a younger version of himself which in the comics is called Uxas.

Without the Olympians and the humanity divided, Steppenwolf believed his strike force was enough. If he also called for back up, DeSaad would have weaseled out of admitting Steppenwolf claimed the planet himself, meaning he'd lose his best shot at getting back in Darkseid's good graces. On the other hand, DeSaad knows if Steppenwolf fails, they can just do a proper invasion afterwards with the bonus of getting Steppy off their backs for good.

As for why they didn't come back in the past, and I know this is my own headcanon, Steppenwolf and DeSaad talked about an internal struggle between the New Gods. I wouldn't be surprised if it had happened as a result of Uxas' failure and he might have wanted to sweep the loss under the rug after cleaning the mess up.

I'll say this. While I'm not generally a fan of Snyder's style and take on different characters, this fucking 4 hour monstrosity actually gave me some faith and I actually hope he gets put in charge of the DCEU again.
MoS and BvS have a lot of issues but they also had some merit, buried underneath some weird and bad choices of direction for Superman's character. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't have fun watching them, or have fun watching this JL.

I honestly think this is Snyder's best movie. because not only is it good, but it retroactively makes his other movies better. I rewatched BvS and MoS and this movie legit moved them up a point each.

I loved Cyborg and Steppenwolf. They are not only actually characters, but great ones. Cyborg going "I'm not broken and I'm not alone" is line of the movie, but the shot that made me tear up is in the epilogue where barry is speed running and smiling. something about the way it goes with the music makes me tear up something fierce.

Also, Junkie XL's score is fucking aces, besides the wierd ethereal chanting he does with wonder woman. legit the only complaint I have would've been toning down that chanting a little bit and maybe cutting out the final nightmare, but I know the fans like it and wanted it.

It's weird to say, but some of my issues with MoS and BvS feel like they're resolved here such that those first two feel like part of a bigger whole.
I think that's something Feige had the good sense to anticipate: that each movie has to be both self-contained as well as part of a larger whole. MoS and BvS are both better in my eyes now as a result of this but I don't think I was wrong to feel so down on them when they came out because why should I expect some future movie to fix a past movie's issues

The film never explicitly says that Darkseid knew what he was looking at when that ALE related symbol appears on the ground when he first arrives on Earth 5,000 years ago, it doesn't help that apparently that symbol is not the actual ALE itself and that Uxas gets fucked up by 3 old gods almost immediately after he unifies the motherboxes.

It's somewhat vague, but DeSaad mentions something about Steppenwolf betraying Darkseid at some point that's why Steppenwolf was exiled, so perhaps that's a detail that's expanded upon in the hypothetical JL2.

What the ALE or Earth?

The ALE is hidden on Earth and as for Earth itself, it was guarded by the Old Gods who kept all three motherboxes but did not use them themselves. Since Darkseid got hit in the head by a suped up God of War that only scaled upwards with the arrival of Darkseid's army it's possible it was either pride, tactical prowess or genuine forgetfulness or amnesia from that battle or from whatever unknown outside events including the subsequent ascension process Uxas went through to become Darkseid complete with the Omega Effect.

MoS, BvS and even this version of JL have their own issues still and don't exactly work in the same way LOTR do, even back when they were released.
LOTR, even as a film adaptation, was clearly a part of something larger within each film but they also worked as standalone films that you can get some enjoyment out of.

Snyder's issue has never been the visual storytelling of his movies, it's usually been related to the actual direction he chooses for characters, the screenplays he elects to work on or his ability to get the right emotion from his actors for particular scenes.

Again, Snyder has some really great skill at working symbolism into his shots, it's why he made such a good music video director.
My issue with him is the actual decisions he makes for the story. Like, the Jesus allegory with Clark is one of the weakest paths you can go with exploring his character.
My favorite scene in JL with Supes in it is my favorite because they acknowledge the role his human upbringing played in making him who he is, something that BvS and MoS kind of flip flop on

I'm thinking the Supes that comes back from the dead isn't actually the Supes we know, he's the one from a previous timeline. My assumption is that the Knightmare world is a timeline that's already happened and been reset, but memories of it linger in Bruce's memory, particularly because of Barry reaching out to him. The Snyder Cut is actually amazing in this respect. Whenever it focused on a character I initially had no interest in (i.e. Cyborg or Steppenwolf) I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. In contrast when it was a character I was actually familiar with the movie turned into complete dogshit.

Completely redeems Justice League as a film. Personally I like BvS more, largely due to how it's better paced and more thematically intense, but Zach's cut of Justice League is very solid and quite impressive how much stuff he is able to juggle and balance well in four hours without it really feeling too long. I really hope this leads to green lighting other projects that were cut due to bad reception to the theatrical cut, I especially want Deathstroke vs Batman movie to happen.

Steppenwolf was improved a lot, you now get what Ciaran Hinds was talking in his JL interviews, there is regality and compelling bpathetic failure in the character and how he desperately seeks to be allowed back into Darkseid's court. I also really loved the visual when he was communicating to Desaad.

Barry and Cyborg were improved a ton and now feel like very, very likable characters. I loved the time reversal sequence where Barry is running and destroyed matter is restored behind him. In general this had way better looking Flash running effects. Also, wtf was Whedon even thinking with the shit he did with Barry and Victor in the reshoots, he literally ruined them both.

the fact that it was 4 hours long allowed the action scenes to be properly epic, and avoided lots of hamfisted expostion from the original version. it felt like the each of the characters got a more or less equal amount of focus; it didn't seem like anyone stole the show. the music was good too.

I know MoS and BvS was really not liked by everyone but Warner really should've just followed the 5 movie arc with the spin offs that Zack was going for (just the romance subplot with Bruce and Lois that needed to be cut off but that's already so that's good), much better than just delaying and changing stuff in movies (like the 3rd act in WW and SS as whole) like madmen.

I don't think it's going to happen, but I would be down for more. I wasn't a big fan of BvS or MoS, but Snyder has his vision and he's clearly going somewhere with it and with ZSJL it's slowly starting to pay off, so now I am on board.
My biggest gripe with the movie would probably be Batman. He was pretty underwhelming in the end. I wanted to see him more as team tactician and stealth expert, but I guess Snyder went with Batman that's just throwing money at problems to make them go away. Oh well.

Flash movie is still happening, so Ezra Miller is still on board, Batfleck is technically supposed to star in it, so Ben is still TECHNICALLY involved in DCEU - also, you know, Batgirl is happening and that's 99% DCEU, I don't think you'll be having big problems convincing Ray Fisher to go back if only WB sucks up their pride and I think Snyder might convince Cavill to return. Everything is in WB's hands now and how would the wish to play it.

I feel like they still could've cut nearly an hour out of this, and it would have felt like a much better film.

A bit too many slowmo scenes, too many epilogues, and too many "look at how cool this character is" scenes (Aquaman saving that boat guy scene for example).

It was much better than the original by far though. Steppenwolf was actually a character and actually intermediating this time around and was the biggest surprise for me.

I think the most important part of the movie is how close the Justice League feels with each other, it's something I never got with the avengers.

When Cyborg loses his father, you can see the impact also in the other members of the League, despite knowing him for so little, even Aquaman blames Wonder Woman for reviving Superman. And in the final battle, there are so many moments like that.

Yeah, there are some nice moments between them. Like Aquaman giving Batman shit for this whole final plan ("The boy just lost his father and we tell him to hack into the biggest evil computer in existance"). There were a lot of heartfelt elements that were missing from Avengers.
In general, Avengers were a "nothing" movie. Ask me what the movie is all about and I couldn't tell you. I guess the only selling point of it is that you can see Iron Man and Thor on-screen together.

Again, it's not like they sent a scouting party beforehand to hand out gift baskets to the locals, asking about the planet and if it was okay to conquer it. They just fucking show up and do it. It's totally reasonable to assume that sector 2814 HAS a lantern, but that said lantern doesn't just jerk off on earth all day and instead, y'know, patrols the sector. Space travel takes time, even for a lantern. Steppenwolf was only on earth a handful of days before getting axed. Not unreasonable that the lantern didn't make it back in time for all of the action.

ZSJL had good pacing. I am slightly curious what Snyder's theatrical cut would've looked like, I'm assuming some of the fight scenes were cut down like Steppenwolf vs Amazons. the age of heroes flashback and the final battle. Also no Knightmare tease. That'd probably bring it down to 3hrs something.

Eh, the lingering, meandering tempo of the first half of the movie vibed with me on a rewatch. It grounds the movie, lets it breathe, just like the director's cut of BvS, except whereas the runtime was used primarily to flesh out the world, here it's to strenghten the mood, expand upon the emotional state of the characters. That's what gives the movie the markings of a true epic. People compare it to Lord of the Rings because of the battle scenes or the scale, but I think it's the moments like Flash's introduction, the Aquaman scenes, all the time spent on Hippolyta that bring the movie closer to LotR than anything else. Just leaving the plot behind, not worrying about economic narrative development where every line must count towards something.
Sure, Snyder could have easily cut the runtime down to three hours and put out a more concise and cohesive movie, but the opulence and excess is a huge part of the appeal for me. It's really like the only true superhero opus in quite some time.

Anyway, I'm giving it an honest 7/10, it's not the masterpiece that snyderfags want it to be, but it's not the shitfest that this gods-forsaken board want it to be either.
The CW-level cgi is kinda a bummer, since this movie had a lot of time to be polished, but it's not like I care a lot about it, it's not that big of a problem.
The scene where MM is shown to be impersonating Martha Kent is fucking useless, he could've just appeared at the end and nothing would've changed

Martian Manhunter was a late addition because they weren't allowed to use Hal Jordan. ZSJL was made at a time when they were still working on the Green Lantern Corps movie but in current year all of that's changed to a tv series and they didn't want Snyder introducing a different version in his universe I guess. We do get a glimpse of Kilowog's skeleton in the Knightmare vision though.

TL;DR I doubt they have any plans for Martian Manhunter outside of Snyder wanting to use him in a potential Justice League 2 and 3.

They really leveled up Cyborg for the league, the whole sequence where his dad's explaining his powers to him was kino. I don't see it. There's nothing in the Snyder Cut that's as divisive as some of the moments in MoS and BvS. I think some of that is because audiences have acclimatised themselves to his universe and the darker, more grounded interpretations of the characters. There's no real controversial moment like there was with Superman snapping Zod's neck, the Martha line or murderBats, it even redeemed Jared Leto's Joker in some fans eyes.

Him greeting the League as they enter the Batcave after the underground fight was really cute.
Whole lot of warm moments and touches in this movie all around. Superman with the butterfly, the bonding moments like Aquaman and Wondy finding out Atlanteans and Amazons have the same proverbs, Cyborg helping out the waitress and so on. The movie just has a lot of heart.

Absolutely. Motherfucker kills multiple people without any remorse, Joker is directly tied to killing the Waynes, casting Mr. Mom as Batman, Brice Wayne being a weird recluse, overall tone going so dark... people today would find so many things to nitpick and complain about.

This movie really struggles to incorporate Batman into the action scenes, which is a problem for JL more than Avengers because characters like Widow and Hawkeye are peripheral members of the Avengers while Batman is a main member of the JL.

Absolutely. People used to campaign against Keaton's casting, because he was primarily a comic actor and Returns was so polarizing it forced WB to soft reboot back then too, today it would only be worse.

Exactly. But those movies still had a massive influence on the comics and the cartoons. And with the Nolan Batman trilogy, there were departures from the comics there as well. So I don't care for the comics accuracy argument as much anymore, different can be good. Also the MCU does it with Z-list characters all the time and nobody cares. In fact the MCU is nowhere near as comics accurate as people make it out to be.

DCEU Barry is kind of like a mix between Wally West and Beast Boy in the sense he was going to be paired with Cyborg and is introduced as younger more inexperienced hero.

It was actually pretty well received, it was more that they couldn’t sell as many toys (McDonalds shut down their happy meal tie-in) because it was so dark, that’s why Forever went to another direction when Burton no longer was doing it. Returns also made less money so they figured make it more kid friendly and it kinda did work, Forever made like 60-70 million than Returns did.

In this day and age, it's pretty much impossible to arrive at any sort of real consensus, unless you zero in on the perfect middle ground like Marvel does. MoS and BvS have problems on top of not being movies for everyone, but I don't think being more accomplished on a craftsman level would make that much of a difference. At very best, it would be like an inverted case of MCU Spider-Man.

I think the point of Barry ever since Flash: Rebirth at least is that he's supposed to be more mature than his years because of all that he's been through (mother murdered, father framed and jailed etc.). So he's a bit of an introvert and not really a quipper.

Pretty much everything I hated in the original ended up being a Joss rewrite. The only jokes I was meh on were some of Barry's but most of the really obnoxious stuff was on Joss. And the league being dicks and creating tension between each other was Joss too, like he was trying to copy Avengers there. That Steve Trevor line from Bruce was awful, so glad that's gone.

I think the cartoons popularized quippy light hearted Flash whether it be Wally West or Barry Allen in the suit. The DCAU version was in that sort of area. CW Barry is closer to what Barry is in the comics but I feel like he's only that way because he's the protagonist and they have other characters for comic relief like Cisco or Ralph. When he's in an ensemble like Justice League they tend to make him the funny one.
