Peter loses his way and thinks he has to change and be more like Venom, but is shamed into staying true to himself.
It might not say something meaningful and profound enough for you, but it's making an honest attempt at it's message, and nobody would reasonably expect a 1990s Marvel event about Carnage to even HAVE a message.
