As I said in the previous thread, it's not a bad episode, but they briefly explained the past of Magica de Spell, it needed a little more processing, although the writers don't seem to care. Okay, the finale will be next week, so we'll see if Magica reconciles with Scrooge and returns Poe to normal.

this episode was pretty good. I actually felt sorry for magica. like yeah she was an evil villain but she didnt deserve to have her family take a bounced back spell for her and get lost forever. the others were just scrooge not caring but here was someone begging him for help and he ignores her to shove more gold in his hat

I could understand Della's selfishness if we were shown (not told) that her and Donald were tightly knit. However, being that they've interacted little with one another, and with Della's own tendency to go off without telling anyone (Doomsday Vault, anyone?), her reaction is completely unwarranted. I think the first season holds up well.

Starts to sink in Season 2 and then flops in Season 3. Basically, most of the people here who watch the show are the ones who really liked the show in the first season but are now just finishing the show out of sheer determination.

The show relies a lot on dialogue. They see Donald's voice as a liability so he gets less screentime as a result.
I don't think it's deeper than that.
It is a shame though, because
1) Say what you will about TLO3 (and I'm not anywhere as enamoured with it as many here) but it did prove that you can have a perfectly understandable Donald if you just cooperate with Anselmo in the script and
2) if they didn't wanna go that route, there's still a ton of juicy drama to be mined from someone who suffers Donald's condition of literally not getting understood by even his own family. They went out of their way to focus on Della's metal leg yet instead of mining the possibilities with Don's voice they treat it like a joke.

Did they? I don't think they mined the possibilities with that, either. There wasn't any drama with having to sever a limb; in fact, Della's reaction to having it crushed was rather nonchalant. And after she returned to Earth, her having a prosthetic leg seemed like an afterthought, at best. No one's really commented on it, nor has she utilized it much.

Part of the reason why Donald's speech impediment is taken seriously is -- I think -- because the writers would reckon it too cringe. Any moment with actual gravitas is always followed up unnecessarily with humor, as I'm sure you already know, because genuine emotion is their kryptonite.

I only checked out last episode because of Magica and her bf, but was too depressed by the shitshow to post yesterday. Somehow the whole formula of nu-tales was even worse than I had remembered. Especially everything to do with louie rubbed me off all the wrong ways, to the point I was angry with my self for ever wanting to see it in the first place.

I think I'm done. As far as I care, nutales was a bad dream that ended before it started. Letting leftypol make cartoons was a mistake.

And why do they call this WebbyTales, when this is actually DeweyTales? Well, he mostly appeared in Nu-Ducktales, which is a shame, because they showed a great difference between his brothers and himself. And I could say the worst triplet, there is nothing useful from it and it is totally irritating. Exactly. Donald seems to be their weak point, although there are some things that amaze me. In the first episode, Donald was phenomenal and he could be understood and there were no problems with him. I know that children are the main characters, but they could at least give some episodes of the adventure with Donald and Scrooge, as well as their mutual relations, without joking about Donald's voice.

I also think about the relationship between Donald and Della. On Halloween special, their relationship became impossible, while on First Adventure they really got along. I don't believe it's because of puberty, why their relationship has worsened, but to connect classic Donald with reboot Della (I mean voice actors) is an impossible thing. It doesn't fit.

Not to mention the boys and the question of whether I can really understand Donald. They allegedly understand, but it is not explained how. I love Donald’s DT17, but the way he is treated and the jokes around his voice are derogatory.

It's one of those recap episodes before the final few, it only exists to remind people who all those characters are and what they want because they'll be slightly important in the finale.
Keep in mind most people aren't jobless autists with nothing better to do like the average anon and watch maybe one episode out of two or three. Most of the stuff written for TV works like that because you never really know if the audience saw your thing from the beginning or didn't leave halfway through to grab something to eat and miss something important.

Let's be honest, from the start the 'DuckTales' name has been associated with Donald having no protagonism. Donald is the protagonist often, that is not the real problem here, it's just that, frankly speaking, many fans here have this huge boner for Donald to the point that, when any other character starts being the protagonist instead, they feel hurt and threatened.

The real problem is Duck Tales is supposed to be SCROOGE's story. It's the token outlet for Scrooge as a protagonist out of comics, since in all other media he's just a supporting character, and this reboot hasn't really caught the esence of Scrooge. The show is, whether by creator design or executive interference, too focused on the kids, but really, Scrooge is the one actually shafted here, not Donald.

This. Although they could have added April along with the sisters. Daisy would be introduced not in the third, but in the first season, and her nieces would be in the second season instead of Violet. That Webby is actually April, I don’t like at all. Yet AMJ’s legal characters are nearly 70 years old, and by putting Webby in that group, it destroys that originality.

You mean them? I know what you’re talking about, though again if Americans don’t know that much about these characters and if they’re portrayed in animation, I guess they should be portrayed the right way, not made OCs. That’s what worries me about most of the famous Duckverse characters portrayed in Ducktales. Although, viewers' desire to meet other Duck media after the end of Ducktales is likely to increase.

For AMJ in Brazilian comics I agree, they are not the ones that matter there, unlike HDL, Dugan and Jose’s nephews. That they are very popular in Europe, that is true, especially in the Netherlands, which are even well developed, and that is what I like. I actually love AMJ because Daisy can be a great parent and a good person, like Donald and doesn’t have to be alone. And AMJ are great competitors with HDL.

A similar but inverse of sorts situation happened in Latin America. In Spain, they just translate the names literally as Abril, Mayo y Junio, but since Abril is the only actual personal name in Latin America out of all of those, we instead went with the color-patterned naming of Rosa, Blanca and Celeste (Pink, White and Light Blue).

OG Duck Tales translated 'Webby' as 'Rosita' (Pinkie) probably as a nod to the triplets, and the reboot's translation stuck with it. So funnily enough, for us it actually falls into place. By making this Webby an April, they actually fall in line by just keeping 'Rosa' as 'Rosita'.

Perhaps Angones had that in mind but I doubt it, since anyone with a real knowledge of Spanish duck naming conventions would have named Fenton something like 'Patiño' instead of 'Cabrera' (the former sounds like Pato/Duck, the latter like Cabra/Goat).

In Sweden, there was a slightly different thing that happened.
Dickie Duck made very few appearances here, as not all her stories were translated. Her name in these stories was Ank-Sofi(Duck-Sophie, and a spin on swedish name Ann-Sofi)
In 2006, one of her previously untranslated stories was translated... and named her as Anki- the swedish name for Webby.
Pic related is the comic is in question, though I could not find the swedish version.

I'll agree as to the post about wasted potential; however, I'll always look back to the first two seasons fondly, especially marathoning them with my closest friend. Being introduced to Della was another lovely moment, even though in retrospect, she wasn't handled all that well, which continues to be an issue to this very day.

The worst moments are much more numerous, however: the S3 premiere and how everything about it felt off; the lead up to the Moonlander episode and prospects of a lesbian Della; Lena's retarded transformation; Phantom Blot's drab depiction; Magica's interesting (and somewhat poignant) backstory being squandered; the absolute mess that is the F.O.W.L. storyline; Lena's mishandling in the second season; the heavy Webby focus, which has been amplified in the third season, at the expense of poor Huey...

Yes, it’s a great episode, probably maybe because of a lot of references from manga and anime, especially from Astro Boy. I have to say that this is the only episode in which I saw the sensitivity of Gyro Gearloose.

I really couldn’t stay engaged with the show after Della’s return. I don’t think they handled it well at all and I guess I don’t see it discussed here. The problem was that they really didn’t know what to do after Della came back. They knew they were excited to essentially create her character and have her interact with the boys, but everything else fell by the wayside. All they knew was that they wanted her to be flawed so she can “grow into being a mom.”

But they also didn’t want her interacting with Donald for some reason which would be the best way for her to figure out being a parent to the boys, so they made things harder for themselves for no reason.

More than Anselmo, I think it's more they are daunted by writing Donald in general. Maybe Disney is more protective and hawkish about the character than about the others, maybe trying to give Donald serious lines with that voice is kind of Narm inducing for them (the comics, obviously, don't have that problem). How much has Dragon Ball sold in total?
Germany sells about 15 million duck comic issues annually, and the scandinavian countries used to sell a quarter million per weekly issue(individually) back in 2000(so roughly 12,5 million per country). That does not include monthlies.
So between Scandinavia and Germany, we are talking about 70 million issues sold annually even if we lowball it.
Just considering the last 20 years, that's 1.4 billion issues.
I don't know how it sells in the rest of Europe.

Things that have a chance of actually happening:

Webby & Beakley bittersweet family drama (This may be the ONLY good thing left that I can hope for. Don’t screw it up, DT crew.)

Donald & Della bonding (Unfortunately, it’s super late in the game and I’m annoyed that it didn’t happen earlier in the season, but I’ll take it - even if it’s in the eleventh hour.)

That’s about it for my hopes. Everything else is either going to be rushed to all hell, total trash, or stuff I don’t care about. Just don’t make Webby a literal member of the McDuck family by blood. That’s my final plea.

I think Webby being the true McDuck heir will leave a sour taste in everyone's mouths. But the way the writers are doubling down on Webby's importance, and the newfangled trend of subverting expectations, I wouldn't be surprised if they took this route. Of course, that would mean May and June might also be McDuck heirs, which is a dumb prospect in itself

Oh, I’m expecting it to happen. It would explain a lot. Why the crew is so insistent on referring to her as the being like the “fourth nephew” and “sibling to the boys.” Why Frank is so weirdly ornery about Dewey/Webby shipping. Why Webby was compared to Della in the S2 finale as though she were a family member. It’s pretty clear they intend for her to be a family member by blood.

Of course, by doing that, they remove the only blood family we know from Daisy and give it to Scrooge instead. But that’s okay! Because Daisy will adopt these girls that she’s only just met and will be a Mom - er, I mean “Aunt” to them.

To be honest, it's better to be a radio program, although I don't like the voices there. They probably had to give something, so as not to disappoint the fans, since there will be no sequel nor will there be a fourth season of Ducktales. Adventure Time and Gumball are some of the most popular shows in 2010s era and on Cartoon Network, so they did get their spin-off series and movies, while for Ducktales 2017 this is not the case. Ducktales 2017 has not achieved a high rating since the end of the second season and the fact that they spoke as the best episodes, are actually the most watched, just for the reason of bringing nostalgic characters. The only thing they offered after the ending was a podcast about life in Duckburg to probably tell what they didn't show in the Ducktales series. Probably not to disappoint DT fans, although that won't last long either.

I know a lot of DT17 fans will crack, but let’s face it, it’s really time to end DT17.

I think it’s possible that some Duck artist in the future could create a compelling backstory for the mystery dad. Don Rosa’s idea of him being related to Daisy isn’t a bad one. I suppose it would depend on how they decide to handle it. Perhaps he’s just as heroic and adventurous as Della is? Died in battle or a tragic accident? The only thing we really know about him is that the triplets tried to blow him up with a firecracker once. Perhaps he’s as prone to accidents and slapstick like Donald is.

That said, I can’t imagine a story where the father is around. He’d likely be missing or dead. Because, ultimately, Donald should be their father figure.

Truth to be told, I have overall enjoyed the whole series, but I can agree that season 3 has been the worse so far.

The one thing I will say is that Glomgold is unironically the best thing to come out of Nu-Ducktales, even a background cameo bright ups an episode.

I’m really surprised Disney wouldn’t let them make Penumbra gay. She’s an OC that no one cares about and will disappear once the show ends. It would have been easy “representation” and they’d have gotten asspats for it.
There was hilarious drama on ducktwt today over Penumbra losing a “gayest Ducktales character” poll. The “progressive” fan girls were upset because Penumbra is “canon” (word of god) lesbian and they started posting detailed fantasies about killing the character who won. This fandom is truly crazy.

It sounded like they knew they wouldn’t be able to do that based on comments they’ve made about legacy characters and just wanted her to state that she was a lesbian to leave it open between her and Della, but the execs’ “compromise” was the final line which just makes Penny sound like she’s not into earth men but fine with dating alien men.

I remember the Beaks blog.It’s always the same people who insist that fiction always affects reality and attack anyone who writes dark or violent fanfic or ships “abusive” pairings, but when they write out a detailed paragraph about killing a character that won a stupid Twitter poll it’s a joke and if you call them creepy for it you’re “bullying a minor”. And for people that care so much about minors they don’t care much about kids browsing ducktales fan accounts finding these tweets.

There are already theories about him, and Don Rosa even drew a portrait of him and signed himself, saying that he would also like him to appear. Pic related without signature. And I think he’s Daisy’s brother, but there are a lot of fans who don’t want it to be, saying it’s just Don Rosa ’idea, even though there are a few European Duck artists and writers who set it up as well.

By the way, there are theories among fans that the father of the triplets is called either Jamie Duck or Cosmo Duck or Harold Duck (there are various variants of the name) and that he is Daisy's brother (the one of Daisy's three brothers shown in Donald's diary) and that he may be a spy or cosmonaut and that he was killed by explosives and that he may not be alive. I don't know either, I don't believe that he suffered because of mischief by Donald's nephews, but it is probable that Della Duck took her sons to her brother's safe, and that her brother taught them an important lesson and disciplined them.

Even if he were alive, I don't believe he should be portrayed because it would ruin Donald's parenting, he should be like traveling around the world or in space, and just being a cameo character and that won't ruin his reputation either nor Donald as a true parent for triplets.

Della Duck should have been shown because she is the mother of three sons, but she should not be shown more often, but as if she is a pilot or an astronaut and travels around the world or in space and appears occasionally, but she is one of the biological parents alive, but not as much as Ducktales did in 2017, collapsing parenting at Della’s brother Donald towards the boys.

Again, it all depends on how the authors of Duck comics and Duck cartoons will show them and whether they are willing to do so.

And yeah, everyone on there headcanons basically all the characters as being autistic/trans/NB/ace so it's not exactly unique to just Gyro, but their seems to be more cohesion with him in particular since he doesn't have the obviously "male" features like a wattle/comb etc like Steelbeak does for example. Personally, it annoys me that it's almost impossible to find any good fics where the characters aren't all trans. I'm not going to deny anybody their own headcanons but it's taken so far these days.

The reasoning behind the trans Gyro headcanon never felt right to me. Because he's referred to as a chicken rather than a rooster he's trans? Isn't that transphobic by their logic? Calling him a chicken would be misgendering him. And wouldn't the woke DT crew cast a trans actor if they always make sure to cast greek/latino etc actors to play characters that share ethnicity?

I believe chicken is a gender neutral term but I get what you mean, if he was truly transgender they would go out of their way to refer to him as a rooster because "transroosters are roosters!" lol

I've always seen Gyro as being pretty explicitly gay but the comment about him always going in the closet in that recent episode definitely sealed the deal.

There has definitely been an uptake in the Gyro hate though, yeah. People are really hating on the Fenro shippers too.

I’ve seen a lot of people claiming that the Fenro shippers obsessively hate Gandra but I saw none of that from them other than a few of them saying they were disinterested in her and that one darkfic from someone who admitted that they don’t even hate her. Obsessing over Gandra is just a new type of virtue signaling in the fandom. A few of the bigger Fenros who created the most content renounced the pairing when it was suddenly decided that it was misogynistic.
It’s the same group of people that are always looking to start fights in the fandom. After Frank called them out they moved away from the Delpads and are looking for a new ship to hate, but a lot of the current Fenros seem to be young so I don’t think they’ll even try to fight back.

I've not seen any Fenro shippers actually hating on her at all. I've seen Fenro shippers saying they don't care for her/that they find her underdeveloped/that they just prefer his dynamic with Gyro, but not actually calling for her death or anything like that. I think you can say you don't care for a character without equating that to hating her. But I HAVE seen a lot of Fendra shippers making fun of Fenro shippers/taunting them that their ship isn't canon/going onto Fenro fics and commenting that they should stop writing the ship. What does it matter to you if people create content for a non-canon ship? Jesus, people, get a life.

Also, that one darkfic was supposed to be purposely provoking to the Fendra shippers, it was more about pissing them off than the actual character herself, they're just in too deep to recognize a trollfic.

The debut story featured Donald receiving the ownership papers of Villa Rosa, an abandoned villa outside of Duckburg ("Paperopoli" in the original Italian version) whose owner had disappeared decades ago. Donald soon finds that the papers were actually intended for his cousin Gladstone, but he is content not to correct the mistake. Visiting the villa with his nephews, he discovers the diary and an abandoned suit of Fantomius, who was known as a notorious gentleman burglar and sometime vigilante active during the late 19th century and early 20th century. Donald learns his methods of maintaining a secret identity by acting as a harmless and rather incompetent gentleman during the day and during the night as a vindicator, taking revenge for his grievances against society. Intrigued, Donald decides to keep his discoveries to himself as they might prove useful.

He soon meets his own two greatest causes of grief: his ruthless and domineering maternal uncle Scrooge McDuck and his arrogant and extremely lucky first cousin Gladstone, who enjoys taunting Donald with his own effortless successes in comparison to Donald's constant efforts and failures. Deciding to take revenge on them, Donald presents the diary's notes on weapons and transportation means to Gyro Gearloose, who soon equips him with a utility belt and boots that contain many useful gadgets and also adds special equipment to Donald's car. The first mission for "Paperinik", as he names himself, is to steal his uncle's mattress which contains $1,000,000 in small bills. He does so by making certain that Scrooge inhales enough of a sleep-inducing drug to keep him out of action all night. He then frames Gladstone for the theft.

Gladstone, trying to clear his name, decides to investigate the villa but the "candle" he uses for light is actually dynamite. He accidentally destroys the villa and the money ends up scattered around the area. Scrooge seems convinced that Gladstone is responsible but decides not to place charges if Gladstone manages to collect the money. Meanwhile, Donald is gloating over all of this and states that his career has just begun.

Donald later discovers the second volume of Fantomius's diary in the anniversary story "Paperinik e il ritorno a Villa Rosa" ("Paperinik and the Return to Villa Rosa") by Fabio Michelini and Giovan Battista Carpi. The later story was 53 pages long and was first published in two parts on September 17 and September 24, 1996.

The first story is considered an Italian Duck comic classic and was popular with readers of the time as Donald acted with more confidence, intelligence, and skill than that of his regular identity. The story seems also to owe many of its aspects to its writer Guido Martina whose stories often focused on the darker and more villainous aspects of his characters' personalities.

In the early stories, Paperinik wasn't actually a superhero, but a vindicator, avenging wrongs that had been done to Donald, sometimes in blatantly illegal ways. The writers toned this aspect down later and turned him into a superhero instead, as they understood it was not a good long-term idea to turn Donald into a full-time villain. The character's methods did not change much but he started targeting the criminal population of Duckburg, in particular, the Beagle Boys. This still remains his main mission today, although he occasionally faces higher profile adversaries and finds missions which require him to travel away from Duckburg.

The "old style" stories and characterization eventually fell out of favor, and Paperinik emerged as the main defender of Duckburg, keeping watch on the city with his high-tech and always nonlethal weapons and gadgets, in a fashion much reminiscent of the Batman. The American hero is given explicit tribute in some stories where the Mayor or Police Chief of Duckburg are seen requesting Paperinik's assistance with a kind of Bat-Signal which projects the outline of a bat "wearing" Donald's trademark hat.

This is how they will show the finals before the premiere, instead of waiting for the finals on Monday. Because of the promotion? Could be also why S3 Della feels a bit off compared to her S2 self. The ingredients are all there, but there's something added which takes away from the final product. Kind of like S3 as a whole.

Any new pairing that is “revealed” during the finale is going to feel forced to most of the audience. The show took its time to develop the three romances in the show thus far. In what is already going to feel like an overstuffed mess of a finale, who is going to expect a sudden romance for Huey, Dewey, and Louie’s mom? Especially with a character that’s only been established as her best friend prior? Not everyone watching the show has shipping brain.

I had a thought that it’d have been more impactful if Scrooge’s family had to bear witness against him. Could show his miserliness with the likes of Louie saying what it was like growing up so distant from his estranged uncle he never knew about, perhaps Fergus saying most of Mr. McDuck’s ventures were self centered and none of the profits helped the rest of clan McDuck aside from paying the castle’s debt and his parents dearly miss him coming around more often, and the real, figurative and literal, gut punch coming from Hortense going in on how Donald and Della suffered under Scrooge’s care before and after the Spear of Selene. Or, if they were faithful to the comics, have Hortense be the second relative that walked out on him the day he became the richest duck in the world. They tried really hard this episode to push a family matters message and how Scrooge breaks them up, but it’d have been more damming, and faithful to the comics, if they’d actually shown Scrooge’s impact on those closest to him. The thing that weighed the whole on trial idea down was calling only 3 witnesses then making it all or nothing on something abstract as karma. If the show was good they’d have had Glomgold and Ma Beagle as his innocent half balanced by Magica’s guilt. The issue of course is the show went with those two terms when Scrooge himself doesn’t show or have guilt, it’s more he hates the idea of his past being brought up. Never before or after has Scrooge shown any sort of remorse in facing the trio of accusers and their complaints never have been factored into their interactions.

Huey, Dewey and Louie are named "Hugo, Paco and Luis" in Latin America and "Juanito, Jorgito and Jaimito" in Spain. Launchpad was renamed JOE and while Scrooge is called Rico McPato in LA, his name is Gilito in Spain.

I said before in a previous thread that nuDuck Tales treats Scrooge McDuck like a G-Rated Rick Sanchez. They even played down his miserliness to make him conditionally flawed rather than his negative traits being a package deal with his positive traits.

The "victim" being put in a scale is a terrible visual metaphor. I expected that they would listen to all of the victims' complaints making everyone thinking that she was on their side until it was revealed that she deems Scrooge McDuck as still innocent and his feeling of guilt was punishment enough.

The episode ended with Louie jokingly shifted the blame of pet infestation in mansion to Scrooge getting him a pet in first place but that is the same level of logic that was used in the court.
