>>121308099Yeah, there's a date in the first movie for 1962 (I think Mr Incredible was reading a newspaper iirc). Brad Bird has said that was not really intended, that the setting was more based on the 60s aesthetic rather than literally being set in the 60s.
But that doesn't make sense either. If it's some future based on the 60s aesthetic then Mr Incredible's "Mr Mom" plotline in the sequel doesn't make sense - that was common enough in the 80s to be itself the subject of a mainstream movie.
It's just surprising that up until this sequel, I'd found Pixar to be very reliable in their worldbuilding in terms of consistency. But the sequel really blew that up.
>>121307586>Reminder that in the Incredibles universe they already have CDs and body cams.So they have wireless communications with sufficient data rate to make body cameras practical, but no one has thought to apply that tech to handheld devices for speech, i.e. mobile phones? Data requirements for speech is much lower than video, so that should come first (as it did in real life).
And you can say it's just a movie and it's just an artistic choice and it's not supposed to make sense - but as previous anon posted the whole 'screenslaver' villain is based on tech that isn't shown to be part of the Incredibles world and that's a big deal. It's not some minor irrelevant detail if it's what the villain is basing their evil scheme on.
