Why did Bruce Wayne become such a cynical bastard when he got old ?
I remember when he was this airhead playboy who was a good guy but then he did a complete 180 in personality and is now such a rude asshole for no reason

He probably stopped making public appearances long before he retired being Batman. Around the time the Powers family started taking more control. Not having to keep up the happy billionaire charade was probably a huge relief for him.

Because, in Amada Waller's eyes, the world needs Batman. He's bot getting any younger when she puts her plan into motion, under the (rightfully founded) fear that some puck will get lucky in Bruce's old age. So she finds a Neo Gotham couple (Terry's parents), and rewrites the male's DNA to be an exact copy of Bruce's. Then, when the boy (Terry) is old enough, have his parents killed in front of him, setting him on the path to becoming Batman. Phamtasm couldn't do it though (probably because she knows how it torments Bruce to this day).
Also, all this is the final episode of JLU, just fyi.

He dedicated his entire life to being batman, literal fucking decades of fighting crime and risking his life, and in the end it didn't change much. Sure he's saved lives over the years, but in the end Gotham is still a crime ridden shit hole and now he's too old and fragile to clean up the trash himself anymore without betraying his morals and using guns.
He used being batman as a way to cope for his unresolved feelings, it's only natural he becomes a cynical asshole once he can no longer be batman

Without the batman persona to channel his inner edgelord into, it just kinda leached into his everday life. This combined with how all of his old friends were either dead or out of his life, and how Gotham was still a miserable shithole that was getting worse by the day, made him take the path he did.
