>>120520869Original all the way. You can't use volumetric shading or gradients when characters are drawn with black shadows. The black shadows are there to help give volume when the flat colours are applied, if you want to do more detailed shading, ink the characters without shading so the colourist can do it.
Also, comics aren't movies! Background colours can change to enhance the mood or make characters stand out, they don't need to be coloured 'realistically'.
Would Watchmen be as beloved if Higgins coloured it realistically?
