In some comics, adult HDL are mostly portrayed either to resemble Donald Duck or are still members of Junior Woodchucks, only as adult scouts, and there are other interpretations. In one comic, they are portrayed as adult Paperinik heroes who, instead of Donald, help the world fight villains.
In the original Ducktales, one episode, though, was magic cast by Magica de Spell, when Scrooge went 20 or 30 years into the future and saw HDL running his business. Fortunately, that spell was broken when Scrooge returned his one dime. In Quack Pack, in one episode, Dewey imagines himself as a 90-year-old still sharing things with his brothers.
I don’t think Disney wants to do that, because that would have a lot of consequences from the audience. Remember Max Goof and how he grew up. Simply put, HDL are more doomed to stay as boys, but it would be interesting to see them as adults, only it certainly won’t be canon, due to the different versions.
