>>120408428I was under the impression Old Cable came back from 3999 or whenever to stop Apocalypse from conquering the Earth. He did so multiple times in the past, and only really abandoned the past after Messiah Complex when
1) Apocalypse had been MIA for some time and only came back much later, under unclear circumstances (did we ever find out how he got out of whatever Celestial shit snatched him during the Decimation storyline where he makes Gambit and Sunfire horsemen?) and as an ally
2) To save the future of the mutant race, certainly a worthy cause
And he came back to finish up #2 well before Pocy's return. And when Pocy did come back in Dawn of X (ignoring all the Evan stuff in between as it's completely irrelevant to Cable) it was as a buddy.
What the fuck did young cable kill old cable for then? He did his job and kept fucking doing it.
I think the better story would have been if young Cable came to kill old Cable BECAUSE he did his job - his mission was done, the future undone, and so young Cable had no reason to want to stay there. Why not come back to the past and live with his family, have a normal life? Grow up like a normal kid with his parents. All he has to do is take care of one grizzled remnant of a now dead future... Surely no one would care? Surely Old Cable didn't make any connections like 90s X-Force or Uncanny Avengers that might make for interesting team-ups to try to get to the bottom of Old Cable's murder? Would Scott and Jean just forgive him, finally getting to raise their son? Or would they see a budding Stryfe? Could have been fun.
