So that puts a 6 year age gap between him and Sue. However, by the time Sue turns eighteen, Reed would only be about 24, which in grown up terms is not that vast. Age gaps matter way less the older you get. Reed essentially was a college grad banging a college freshman, assuming of course he didn't stay on for extra classes and wasn't still also a student.
