He’s been working on sonic comics for over 10 years and despite being one of the most recognizable brands it’s STILL a niche book and he has failed to capitalize on any recent inroads the brand made.
There’s a netflix show around the corner and he still doesnt realize that mainstream audiences dont care about tangle, they don’t care about whisper, they don’t care about zavok or dr starline or amy rose or silver or shadow or the chaotix, they dont care about cream crying because her fucking robot has metal virus aids, they don’t even care about the “modern era videogames”.
Sonic does his best in cartoons because of his personality and appeal and how his powers and villain perfectly lend themselves to easy to understand comedy and drama. He has the appeal of road runner, bugs bunny, and a saturday morning action star all rolled into one.
He can’t stop writing sonic comics like fan comics for message board friends who call him based because he referenced dynamite dux in an issue about tails crying because dr starline stole his robot or some shit.
General audiences remember the cartoon with the robotnik memes, the dark cartoon with princess sally, the funny sonic boom cartoon with meta humor, the movie with jim carrey in it. Ken Penders being horrible made him more known to a larger audience than his own work on meme sonic and megaman comics has. He can’t write something mainstream audiences will be interested in.
If the gag era of archie comics (#0-#30 or so) were happening now they’d be really popular online right now because they were actually funny and not trading on fan knowledge or autists investing in bad appeal characters like dr starline, which is a character no child would ever want a toy of.
Make simpler comics with page-turner comedy-action. Don’t be the sonic equivalent of Toyotaro.
