>>120196383Yeah, they're mostly animators, but you have artists who also have more specific goals like just do backgrounds, those who do character animation, 3d artists, story boarders, character design, mechanical design, etc.
There's people who aren't even involved directly in animating like composers, musicians, writers, producers ,etc.
Then there's the directors who have to manage all that and make sure everyone's on the same page and it all works.
The animators can't do shit if any of these parts aren't in sync with each other, and they have to keep up that level of smoothness across very long production runs.
It's a far more complex system than anything Disney was working with in the 30s.
>>120186224That's a very good image, but people aren't wrong to criticize anime for having sameface syndrome.
I feel like some of those entries probably shouldn't even be on there.
Even when shows look different from each other another huge issue is that character designers often have only a handful of faces they draw.
So within a single show characters often look very similar to each other with the only discernable differences being hairstyles.
Hisashi Hirai is a textbook example of this, the raildex series, and whoever designs the characters for UFOTable's Fate stuff.
Anime needs way more diverse character designers.
Kenichi Yoshida is my favorite because he does this so well. His casts always look so fun and distinct. They have different body shapes, expressive outfits, hairstyles, skin tones, ages, etc.
