Practicing is only half.

You have to put your work out into the world.

You have to put out work somewhat consistent.

Build a fan base, that way if you ever pitch your idea. It's not just an idea you have proof of what it is, and proof people are interested in your idea.

Just do it!
A good example is Twokinds.
The art was horrible, but give the guy credit, he's improved greatly over the 17 years (fuck its been around that long?!) he's been doing the comic.
