>>120056204By the way I'm not saying Superman is a bad character in isolation. I just find the attempts to make him out as this cosmic support pillar more fundamental to DC's reality than, say, the fucking Abstracts in Marvel are to be incredibly hamfisted and cheesy.
>>120056297THANK YOU. It was a trend that started out with somewhat more of a pretense at nuance in Dark Nights Metal but ONLY by rummaging through Morrison's old work in a way so shameless it makes Johns' raccoon nickname pale by comparison.
I feel to a certain extent Wonder Woman is getting that kind of weird, dumb treatment in Death Metal with how badly Snyder is explaining why she's right (that fucking exchange with Prime Time is just embarrassing for Diana), which is bizarre because honestly I was alright with how Diana was written in Dark Nights Metal which put the emphasis on her much less. She was just there to hold the line and fish out the other Leaguers from the World Forge.
>>120056376Well, then we'll have to agree to disagree whether the execution of the metanarrative in current events, including Doomsday Clock, is good writing. Because while I don't think it has to be a bad thing in principle, it just didn't
>>120056430>you're ultimately just saying you dislike the vast majority of DC's historical output since it's damn inception.>And that's a totally fair position, but I hope you can see why you're in the minority. You know what? I was introduced to DC through Vertigo's output. The Sandman and Carey's Lucifer were the 2 biggest pillars of DC's setting to me, not Batman and Superman.
So alright you know what? That's a totally fair assessment of my opinion. I am keenly aware of how much Snyder's Dark Nights-related crap is selling despite how universally despised it is on /co/, so I'll cop to disliking a lot more shit. There is one thing I'd disagree with you on.
