Max gives up his wish because he sees his kid misses him and only wishes to see his dad again, and realizes he had lost sight of what's important. That isn't "depth", it's just how you tell a story.
This is what I fucking hate about defending these movies, they're shit but simply understanding and explaining basic fucking storytelling that even Marvel movies do makes people respond like you're saying they're Oscar worthy masterpieces. It's just basic shit that EVERY movie does and yes even superhero movie writers and directors understand these things, they're not putting them in for no reason.
>>120015591Yes, that's the reason they keep comparing him to Jesus and using religious imagery. The world SEES him as Jesus and wants him to be their savior, and Clark wonders if he's obligated to be, but the ultimate end to this arc is him realizing he doesn't owe the world anything and that he's a man, not a god (even if Batman sees him as that and fears him).
It's all very cringey and tryhard and as subtle as a brick to the face, but I do think it's the audience that's still somehow misinterpreting this simple theme because it requires them to keep up with the actual scenes.
