Well. Maybe that's why.
Me, I wasn't too into YouTube back then, so that stuff is kinda foreign to me compared to contemporary YouTube. I've only just seen Eddsworld, for example. OldTube and NewTube are totally different beasts.
Much of YouTube these days is kinda creepy, soulless, gross, exploitative, generally sinister, and often cringy compared to the halcyon early days. But, it's just objectively better in a lot of ways, for example, if you like food videos like I do. Not only is the quality higher, the food better shot, the procedure better edited, the presenters more funny and charismatic, but the quantity - there's so much of it now. It's indicative of how content on the site's changed.
I don't watch it to titillate my tastebuds, btw, it's more for the process, I can't cook, so it's magic to me.
Still, it's very rare to find new YouTube videos with that same freedom and innocence that it had in the early days, even if the content was a lot more hit and miss. You don't have to have your guard up for OldTube. It's just kids having fun. It's kinda similar to the difference between Vine, which didn't even have ads, and TikTok, which has much more varied, diverse, and informative content on the one hand, but already topped the entirety of Vine in cringe in its first few weeks of existence, and was for most of its existence in the US, basically Chinese spyware that was swimming with dancing children in varying states of dress and pedophiles
