>>119659581It's about generalization. Demographics exist because of an average. Yes, there are many men out there who love romance and women who love action, but it's going by averages. "Girls show" and "Boys show" terms exist because they're business terms that have seeped out into general public just as a way to commnicate with the company. A shit ton of girls watched He-Man and that's why She-Ra got made, but for the sake of the company, they still have to narrow down their target audience in order to capitalize on it. It's no different than Dreamworks movies being "for kids" even though adults can still find Trolls a fun film.
When you're pitching a product and the boss asks you who is it for, you can't just say "everyone". That gets you thrown out the door. You need at least SOME kind of group, whether it's gender, race, age, etc.
