So Spider-Man was cloned by a man named Miles Warren who was in love with Gwen Stacy who Peter let die. HOWEVER
It turns out that this was a ruse by Miles Warren to fool Spider-Man into doubting himself and that Peter Parker has always been the original Spider-Man

That doesn't mean his character was well-utilized. He just outshines the trash surrounding him. And ultimately an antagonist is defined in part by the protagonist, and Rey is a bizarre fucking void. Kylo was never going to be a great character because he was never part of a good conflict, even if his own inner conflict was interesting enough.

No unified vision from director to director made things so much worse than it needed to be. Meanwhile the bulk of Last Jedi went out if its way to subvert expectations to the ultimate destruction of the movie and then Rise of Skywalker spent a bulk of its runtime to debunk and change shit from Last Jedi to the detriment of the storyline as a whole. If there had been a single plotline in the sequels that was fully developed from TFA to TROS, there'd at least have been something redeeming about the whole thing but there just wasn't. Kylo's the closest thing but he's just not enough to salvage everything else.

The first film was a remakequeal of the original film.
The second film was directed by a cynic who loves the smell of his own farts who made choices for the sake of controversy while masking said choices in political wokeness that falls apart upon closer examination.

You're entirely right, but he's worse than any ofthe prior films' villains. I'm not shitposting, what bits we got about Dooku's backstory were way more interesting and Maul and Grievous were far more entertaining. Kylo IS the best character in the sequels, but he's still a garbage character, he was semi-salvaged by a great actor packing a ton of charisma. If Driver were working with good scripts he'd probably be right up there with Vader.

I've heard people say The Mandalorian might "fix" the sequel era's problems the way The Clone Wars fleshed out the prequels, but I just can't see it. The sequels are inherently derivative of the original trilogy, and take place within a couple of years at most. I don't see a way to fix Rey, Kylo, Sheev, Luke, etc..

The Clone Wars were essentially the same as the prequels in its themes and messages, but sometimes more simplified and laid out for younger audience. The greatest service it did was expanding on already introduced world and characters.
And it's not about "making the movies better". It's literal retardation that is happening in the ST. Clone Wars didn't change anything major in the prequels, it just added more context and fleshed out a lot of stuff that they couldn't do in the movies. The prequels taking place over the course of ten years made it inherently difficult to explore everything the era had to offer, the sequels don't have that excuse because they all take place around the same time and the worldbuilding was still shite.

As you pointed out, Star Wars isn't hard sci-fi. That's why ship battles don't take place at 10.000 km range. At the range they fight in Star Wars it should be easy to just point your shit at the enemy. And it's not like it would be hard to program something that could do it

I don't see how a Jedi Order series could fix anything unless they heavily retconned what was shown in the movies. It's a single temple and everyone dies, aside from the traitor, basically leaving no lasting legacy.

The core of the problems with the sequel Trilogy is that most of the setting seems to exist just to make the OT's conclusion pointless. By the end nothing changes compared to the OT's ending, but it's now the new characters who are much less popular taking credit for everything the OT characters had originally done. Basically, the only fix would be to completely undermine what's shown in the sequel trilogy movies.

But I think the EU was too fixated on the OT cast to begin with. If the ST's failure means the new stuff moves beyond the time period of the movies more quickly it's all the better. I don't think the sequels are that much of an albatross around Lucasfilm's neck, to be honest. I doubt they're happy with their performance, but as far as subsequent multimedia projects go they aren't much of a burden.

Like okay let's talk hypothetically. The sequels underperformed and so Disney decides to decanonize them. Now what? What is the next step?
Making a new sequel trilogy? Well aside from that being a marketing shitshow, Carrie Fisher is dead, Harrison would never sign on, and Mark won't do it if Harrison won't do it, which he had said for the first ST. So a new sequel trilogy is off the table.
An animated series? It's possible but would that really make as much money as the ST did? Especially without a theatrical run? Doubtful but let's go with this idea.
To appease the sequel haters as much as possible let's make it a little bit earlier than the ST took place and tell a story about Han Luke and Leia fighting an imperial remnant while Luke builds his Jedi temple. Anybody would agree this sounds like a great idea, but it begs the question, what is the point of retconning the ST in this situation? What story can you possibly tell here that needs the ST to be retconned and would be worth explaining to casual consumers that there are two timelines now?

The subversion of TLJ could've been great if they'd just stuck with it. But this is what happens when studios hire Abrams. He can't make a movie. Just like with Ray not having some SECRET NOBLE LINEAGE, make it so Kylo is just a power hungry brat who made a power grab because that's him. Take the story from "they love each other" to "why did each of them who had everything pushing them in one direction choose the other direction and it's always their choice"
Turn the Rebel chase into a fucking Red Tide Submarine conflict and ultimately make it known that it was the lack of communication is what made this mess.

Suddenly you have a Star Wars film about not being held down by LEGACY and that it's peoples unwillingness to communicate or mistrusting what others do and learning to have Faith or Trust the Force if you want to be hammy.

People probably would've found that more palatable but I think showing Anakin's origins and what the galaxy was like before the war is important. But if you really had to change things up, episode 2 could've actually jumped forward to when Anakin was a knight and given us a film centered around the early days of the Clone Wars as opposed to showing us how it started.

The Font of Wisdom that is Butthole Eyes (which, like her or not, is the movie being sincere) tells her to move on. TLJ just took that ball and ran with it by connecting it to Kylo's own inverted version of the conflict, which TFA already started doing.

It's why Yoda knows Luke will be scared, because being scared is par for the course. The mistake the DotF screenplay makes is in assuming the Jedi didn't acknowledge the Dark Side, but that's never been true. TCW even has an episode where Yoda relearns this lesson. Luke never "embraced" the Dark Side anymore than any other Jedi, and acknowledging the Dark Side to find balance isn't anything unusual either.

I think the major beats of the prequels are alright, it's more in the detail but that's probably how George wanted it to be. The story overall is more about themes and parallels as opposed to explaining things like a history book, the Clone Wars serves that purpose instead. Lucas was an experimental filmmaker first and foremost and you kind of get that vibe from the prequels for better or worse.

And I think starting the story when Anakin is young and innocent was done so it'd parallel Luke a little but also show the galaxy at a time before it was thrown into complete turmoil, Naboo represents this Eden like place that Palpatine tries to defile, it's like beginning the story in the idyllic Shire and ending it in Mordor, and the climax of the prequels takes place on Mustafar, a literal hell.

So starting the story in the middle of the Clone Wars kind of ruins those beats. All this has been talked about by Lucas and co elsewhere.

Although one might easily assume since Watto is a slave owner is a totally uncaring father figure without a care in the world for Anakin. Contrary to this assumption, Watto is oddly caring in his own way. Such as letting him leave early or when he sees Anakin again in Attack of the Clones he was genuinely very happy. Watto despite being a slave owner is strangely not totally demonized. Watto is a contemptible bastard in spite of that he is not without his merits.

Obi-Wan is more of an older brother figure that acts like a father figure while Palpatine is an abusive father figure. Palpatine preys upon Anakin’s personal weaknesses to push him to the dark side. Under the guidance of Palpatine or Obi Wan, Anakin is never at ease with himself like he is with Watto or Qui Gon. So, in an odd way, these two father figures have an air of legitimacy to them that Obi-Wan or Palpatine simply lack. Anakin’s inability to find a proper father figure in his life is one of the biggest reasons for his fall to the dark side. Each father symbolizes the type of life and the future he could have. Watto symbolizes his future as a slave mechanic but at least he could live with his mother. Qui Gon symbolizes his hopeful aspirations to become an idealistic Jedi that can cure all of the ills in his life and in the galaxy which never really comes to fruition. For Anakin, Obi-Wan exemplifies the overbearing dogmatism of the Jedi. Palpatine represents the promise of a political system and power to exert his will for control over the galaxy and even life itself. The seeds of this conflict trace back to the contest between Watto and Qui Gon to be Anakin’s father figure.

They don't bother looking into themes and symbolism, references and homages. I kept expecting there to be some cameos or at least for well-known ship models to be at least clearly visible. Instead it's just blink-and-you-missed it cameos of N1s and the Ghost. The rest of the ships are all either leftovers from Rogue One or junk ships slapped together for this movie. And to make it worse, the scene basically just exists to show us Zori is still alive. So many missed opportunities for characters/groups from the rest of the saga to show up and all we get is Zori.

I mean, it doesn't even need to be actual characters we know. For example they could get a closeup of one of the pilots in an N1, and even if it's not a character we've seen, just having someone in the familiar Naboo pilot gear saying something like "I copy, ____ Leader" would've gone a long way. Maybe show some Wookiees piloting one of the larger ships. Maybe there's some guy who has a few battle droids as his ship crew. I don't know. Anything would be better than what we got.

Not really. AoT really showed how bad he was as a master with him being overly critical. The scene where he unnecessary humiliated Anakin in Padme's apartment didn't show him in a good light especially with the council making the same suggestion as Anakin's.

And whereas the Prequels gave us timeskips between movies, as did the OT, the ST only has a major timeskip between 6 and 7. 8 takes place right after 7, and 9 is a year after 8 but NO ONE likes 9 and it's the worst.

You can't fix the ST because there literally is no room to fix it in - the CW cartoons and other stories fleshed out the interesting, yet poorly executed ideas of the PT and had space to do it in. But the STs ideas are soulless copying of the OT, poor and uninteresting "new" ideas that are unfitting, and just... aren't fun. Or cool.

What the Sequels should have been was a combination of the OT and the PT - rhyming with the broad strokes of the trilogies but ultimately pushing forwards the consequences of the OT - Luke's new Jedi teachings, the return of the Sith, the remnants of the Empire, and his children, and Leia and Han's children. Endgame's assemblage works in the sense that the MCU had 21 films before that established many of the characters. And even if you didn't watch all of them, if you watched Infinity War they established Wakanda and the Mystic Arts characters and showed which characters got dusted. For Rise of Skywalker's scene to have worked, it really needed to establish at least some of the ships that showed up, in films and not supplementary material. Nothing felt competently established in Last Jedi or Force Awakens enough to justify a scene.

For an actual Endgame effect it might've needed to have Luke come back in the flesh. Having Wedge show up as a cameo doesn't have the same effect unless you had that.

Kira, Luke's daughter, would be the main character, having to live up to her father's legacy and struggle with the temptation of the Dark Side (Talon's...swaying hips, Ben being her family, her cousin, finding a secondary father figure in the dark mentor), all while trying to put an end to the Imperial Remnants and the new Sith cult, the Children of Shadow. He already has those new psuedo-darktroopers, though. The project hasn't actually produced anything beyond those Snoke-looking slugs, and as the episode pointed out the transmission with the scientist saying they needed the Child's blood or they can't do shit.

I mean it's possible he wants Force troopers in addition to his darktroopers, but the show is clearly establishing a link to Snoke, even if it's only as a project that Palpatine ends up co-opting to create Snoke.

Was Rey/Kira ever going to be Luke's daughter? Lucas hated Mara Jade and the idea of Luke getting married. They've always been tight lipped about who the heroine was originally supposed to be related to, but Lucas made it clear there were several grandkids in his version of the sequels. Given that said he wanted the sequels to be more about Leia I figured both Rey and Ben started out as brother and sister. Apparently that's more mythologically accurate anyway.

I think the concept of Snoke "witnessing the clone wars" boils down to Palpatine puppeting him so technically he saw it all even if not created yet. I dunno, I'm just spitballing.

I wouldn't. I'd scrap the entire thing and rewrite it. I'd still use the characters except Palpatine, who didn't need to come back in the first place. The difference this time is keeping things people did like about the characters while jettisoning anything that doesn't work. Like Finn as a Trooper who defects could have a pretty good story, they just didn't write one during the course of the films.

I feel like this is how they should have approached the ST to begin with. a bunch of factions vying for power. rather than just a two man david vs goliath story. the new republic and first order do not have overwhelming power, and there are still other factions that have grown stronger. the Hutts, Imperial remnants, Confederate sympathizers, Zann consortium, the Mandos, Fel, etc.

I really think they just need to focus on world building in general, because we are sorely missing it. The books, comics, and games haven't exactly done a good job building up the post ROTJ galaxy. I think that's why Mandalorian is doing so well.

I know this is a void argument because everyone in the thread is going to dogpile me, but books like Bloodline, Phasma, the Alphabet Squadron trilogy, and more have all done a great job establishing the ST era. They actually make sense of it.
Mando doesn't even attempt to. It just lets the state of the galaxy sit in the background like the ST did

We know from Daisy Ridley that JJ was considering her being a Kenobi during the making of TFA and he later admitted he was flirting with the idea of her being a Palpatine back then too but kept flip flopping on it.

I did get Rey Solo vibes in Force Awakens with the way Han and Leia warmed to her so quickly and one of the artists even said her outfit that she gets at the end of the movie was inspired by Han Solo. They probably considered her being a relative of every significant character though if they were even willing to make her a Kenobi, well maybe not Chewie...

Just because there's no a huge war going on, doesn't mean there's nothing else you can do. 30 years is pretty short time for the galaxy to recover from the clone wars and the empire (Our real world is still recovering from wwi and wwii). You can choose this as an opportunity to explore the galaxy and the the effect of these two events on it. You can introduce a new threat without making it a galactic scale event.

The issue with Rey is that if you really look at how everyone in TFA treats her - notice body language - they act as if they already know who she is and that she's... something, but Rey doesn't. Everything points in a different direction. Even with the new context of JJ having no idea who or what she was related to, and TFA shutting down the idea of her being connected to anyone, it still doesn't take away the fact that the Solo-Organa family act...odd around her. Han's bizzare choice to accept her as his new partner, Kylo's dialogue, and Leia in the script holding Rey in a "mother's embrace". Even when 7 was initially announced WAY back, the pitch was the Solo siblings.

At the end of the day, the only real way to salvage Rey, I think, would be to have it so her memories are faked - implants. Rey wasn't stuck on Jakku for years as a child, Rey was left on Jakku AFTER Luke's temple was ravaged by Kylo and his students became the Knights, when she was already a young adult and when she had a natural crazy gift with the Force. She was sent away by Luke + Leia and Han as a means to protect her from Snoke's influence due to her being at risk to fall to the dark like Ben did.
