What an asshat. I'm as progressive as they come but this guy is just looking for shit to complain about. The observation that the show has shifted from being crazy characters in a normal world to being normal characters in a crazy world completely misses the point of this change, namely that the 90s were boring and prosperous while the world at the cusp of the 20s of the third millenium is a fucking fever dream. Of course there needed to be a shift, how would you imagine crazy zany characters to make fun of a world that's itself gone topsy-turvy?
This white, well-off dude also sure likes to victimize himself a lot here. In the same sentence where he's complaining about the show poking fun at woke culture (which, are they really?) he also complains about the show making fun of Trump because it's overdone or whatever. So, it's bad because it makes fun of the wrong things, but also all the things are the wrong things. Makes perfect sense. No, what I think is that Animaniacs is making fun of 'woke' culture rather than woke culture. You know, the culture of grifters like this dude with 0 stake and barely any comprehension of progressive ideals still see fit to prop themselves up as the ultimate arbiters of right and wrong. And of course, because his type subsists on constantly publically validating to the world how fucking 'woke' he is instead of actually putting any of the ideals he's supposedly championing into action, this satire has struck a personal nerve with him. So rather than reviewing it he made his opinion before the theme song finished playing and mentally jerked himself off about how much of a righteous article he could get out of this.
Oh, and the cherry on top, in the part where he tries to list some positives in a half-assed attempt to appear fair, he uses a comparison to Black Mirror as something positive. Yeah, sure, that dog turd of a show that has all the subtlety of a sledgehammer ripping off every sci-fi trope is a positive comparison.
