People tend to group sexualization with sluttiness, and a lot of people don't like sluts. While "desexualized" characters are seeing purer and therefore more likable, even sexually, simply because they are not disgusting sluts but rather nice persons on their own who you'd like to have sex with.
My point is that it is more about personality and how you perceive a character than if they show a lot of skin or not.
