I loved CYM as an ending, even though it was rushed
I loved the Movie as a nice little cherry on top of the Hot Fudge Sundae.
SUF is like a big dollop of Orange Sherbet on top of that Hot Fudge Sundae; There's nothing intrinsically wrong with it, but I didn't ask for that and I don't want it on top of my Sundae because it ruins the experience.
Future should have been about tying up loose ends, and the only satisfying loose end tie-up was Volleyball. Practically no questions got answered; worse, some 'answers were redundant - They didn't need the episode with Bluebird because I was positive the plot/subplot of SUF was going to revolve around Gems that don't like Steven. Nearly all Townies and Townie episodes are completely pointless because they never helped at all, I mean just having them join that group hug at the end would have been enough. A training episode with Jasper was stupid because he's too OP and has no one to fight, nor any REASON to fight since he can talk down anyone. AND FOR SOME REASON, IN A SERIES ABOUT DEALING WITH YOUR EMOTIONS AND SOLVING PROBLEMS NON-VIOLENTLY, JASPER WAS JUST BEATEN AND MIND BROKEN INTO OBEYING STEVEN. WHAT THE FUCK?
I feel as though they could have dealt with all of that AND a Steven breakdown if Episode 1 was Jasper's shattering. They could spend the rest of the series with Steven constantly stressed about how he shattered a Gem and trying to distract himself from coming to terms with what, for most of the series, was considered the worst thing a Gem could do. For Steven to half-ass his redemption with Jasper in the hopes that she becomes independent and stops reminding him of his sin, only for Jasper to become frustrated with him over time and eventually join the counter-rebellion. SUF ending with corrupted Steven attacking everyone of every faction, but with Jasper being able to help stop him, not with violence but with something she learned from Steven.
