Did the people behind the DCAU have a electrocution fetish? Every single time they need a character knocked out or whatever they had him electrocuted, even when it was supposed to be some sci-fi or mystical energy attack they represented it with the eletricity effect. Seriously it is uncany how much this happens in JL or JLU.

Electricity is the best, most non-violent way to attack someone and put them down in a cartoon that does not involve shooting a weapon at someone, or hitting them in the head.

Same reason why Korra used it so heavily. The no guns, no knives, no hitting in the head rule brought them down to this.

Well, to be honest I have an electrocution fetish. The idea of hot girls getting tortured with batteries and having cute little burns where they got zapped is pretty damn arousing. Especially if she squeal in pain (or even anticipation of pain) and is tied up while getting zapped.

This has happened before. In the late 70s-early 80s all physical violence was not allowed in cartoons. It made for some fucking horrible Looney Toons shorts, and Superfriends episodes where the only action was the bear hug, same on all the Hanna Barbera toons. Bear hugs from villains and tying people up with rope a lot.

They got over it by the mid 80s but it was a shitty period of time for cartoons. This is just the next incarnation of that same concept.

Even the "uncensored" version still got censored. Joker's torture of Robin was supposed to be implied as far more graphic with lethal-looking tools, but those tools got changed to gag props and Robin was just electrified repeatedly.

No I think because electric attacks are the easiest way to convey that somone is getting fucked up without becoming too violent or creative. Really it does a solid job of visualizing a crippling attack without having to put too much effort. The alternative is that Bruce or Paul get off to hooking up car batteries onto their crotch

This is also what led to a lot of "safe" cartoons that were just sickeningly sweet in the 80s like Care Bears, Getalong Gang, and other sitcom-ey stuff like Alvin and the Chipmunks and Punky Brewster. They just cut off from any kind of good guy vs bad guy storytelling for a while.
