I think contemporary cartoons are much more similar to GF in all these areas.

That's not to say GF is the better show. I prefer AT by a wide margin, even taking into account its crappy later seasons.

Adventure Time gave CN a shot in the heart. Gravity Falls did the same for Disney.
But I'd have to give it to Gravity Falls given how Disney has been desperately looking for a successor and would probably make a third season if Alex was up for it. Whereas Adventure Time is just done. CN gave up not long after AT started to dip in quality.

Adventure Time had a much larger impact in terms of making cartoons interesting again, but Gravity Falls is still influencing the industry. Gravity Falls is more influential simply because it's easier to copy, you don't even really need to deliver on all your mysteries/"DEEP LORE" as long as you can spin the setup.

Adventure Time didn't even understand what made Adventure Time good, especially after Ward stepped back out of stress. I doubt it will ever be faithfully replicated, even by him.

What do you mean by "a shot in the heart" if you mean it killed the channel, well, it didn't, the channel was already on track to collision, AT just delayed the process a couple of years.

If Gravity Falls released a season 3 trailer it would probably cause this board to crash.

So yeah obviously its Gravity Falls. But "influential" is a pretty vague term to begin with and everything that makes those shows stand out was done in the decades preceeding.

I think Adventure Time's art style has a lower (read as: nonexistent) barrier of entry for young artists than Gravity Falls. It supplanted Simpsons and South Park in terms of "Drawing in X style" memes and it took R&M to supplant AT.

I'm going to bet that more people entering the industry in the next decade will credit AT for getting them drawing.

Hirsch said he worked on a Laika project that later got canceled. He also mentioned he was uncredited in the Pokémon movie and Spiderverse. He might have dozens of uncredited worked we might not know about.
