I wouldn't be so sure, he definately is aware of Allisons power, and now of White Chain's uniqueness, and he's been very aware of the prophecy and Zaid, I don't see any reason he just would stop caring about the fate of the universe.

The problem there is Abby has made it abundantly clear that not only is Jagganoth immune to damage thanks to the nails, the guy is the strongest of the Seven by leagues. He is a war machine, built to battle, living to fight and kill, he isn't a king or a god like the rest, he doesn't rule on a throne or govern his people, he's been working for a sole purpose: war. Look at his first act upon showing up, to literally nuke the landing site without hesitation. Solomon might be able to knock him around a bit, but Jagganoth isn't a big rock to just throw into space, the guy is a monster.

Solomon can die, the real concern is who takes his keys afterwards. Because it can't be Jag, if Jag takes the keys it's basically game over for everyone because we know 6 sets of keys in the hands of 6 demiurges only stands in parity to Jag and his single set. This is the mystery that matters and makes this moment more meaningful than simply a character merely dying.

I think it's perfectly appropriate that Solomon dies here. This will be the first demonstration of any wielder of the keys facing off against another and from a writing standpoint we need to see exactly how the transaction of one key forcibly taken by another looks.

I also think Solomon fighting here is necessary to demonstrate the calculus of the 6v1. Solomon failing shows why it's so important that all the other stand together because it could just be as simple as 6 of them dogpiling on Jag so that one of them has a shot at ripping the key from his brow - that solution doesn't necessarily mean that all 6 of them survive that encounter but it's still necessary because Jag being what he is. How Solomon fails and dies and gives up his keys shows us how the 6v1 fight would have gone down and I think that's valuable. Because remember, what happens here will only be new and a surprise to Allison and Zaid and the reader, everyone standing there knows how this shit works and as the audience/Allison, we have to see that shit because its as integral to the fiction.

We don't know of or see Worf winning enough to know he's actually a winner - in fact, we learn that he's a fucking loser for the most part because of the effect.

We know Solomon's a winner, that fact is indisputable because we know at most there are only 7 other people (including Zoss) who may have won harder than him in the history of the universe. That doesn't mean he's immune to loss but the meaning of his loss isn't to diminish Solomon's standing but to show what it takes to beat one of the Top 7 whereas Worf losing is to teach you to not believe the hype and that Worf is a bitch and I don't think Solomon or any of the other demiurges were overhyped by any means.

The issue is Worf was never once established as a competent individual or ever shown capable of fighting. He only eats shit, and all his suggestions as CHIEF SECURITY OFFICER only ever get told to fuck off by the captain. He's a seat filler entirely. That is what it means to be a Worf. Always said you are badass but not even getting to establish it as a baseline in the first place.

Like, if you were to read too far into it (as I'm sure the writers didn't), the point of Worf jobbing to absolutely everything they encountered wasn't (only) to cheaply show how powerful their foes were at Worf's expense but to help demonstrate that the Klingon race is more than their physical prowess - that the point of Worf's character was that he embodied the parts of the Klingon culture were just as important: their respect and honor. The whole show was about demonstrating that races were not one-dimensional and that sentient beings are more than their outward and obvious traits, as Worf did on behalf of his race. And that humanity in the show had gotten past their prejudices and their struggles with other races were parables for struggles in humanity's history.

I haven't watched more than a couple hours of Star Trek and all of it was The Next Generation, but it's a worthy product of study and analysis. There's shittonnes of meaning in TNG whether or not it was purposely put there.

The thing about "honor" is that subscribing to the concept has both good and bad outcomes.

On one positive hand, you have Worf's sense of honor that has a pragmatic bent to it. He accepts an unfair punishment and dishonor in order to avert civil war that would lead to countless deaths and instability in the empire. In this way, he recognizes that his personal honor does not supersede the well being of innocents and that in of itself is truly honorable.

On the other negative hand, honor demands a variety of stupid fucking things and travelling roads Worf could have easily went down such as seeking vengeance. There's plenty of examples of atrocities committed in this world over regaining lost honor.

I don't remember exactly what happened with Zuko. Thought he took the lightning bolt that was aimed at Katara. I don't think honor had anything to do with anything there rather a selflessness. Unlike Worf, Zuko taking the hit was just one life for another, Worf's shit was about self-sacrifice for the betterment of untold billions.

Watch the first season.

A lot of people only saw the later or even only the final season, but there is an actual slow burn character growth there. She literally did play it by the books 100% and tried to be kind to everyone. I can't even begin to explain how much inhuman shit the crew was subjected to just for the mistake of being polite to people they meet. Her efforts to extend peacefully are NEVER rewarded. The entire delta quadrant is full of psychotics.

You can see her slowly come to accept this and decide her crew's life is top priority over time. Her behavior and approach change over time as each major incident backfires for the simple fact they didn't raise shields and fire the moment they saw the other ship.

It's actually fairly incredible when seen whole, and having seen the kind of wastes of space she had to deal with, it's entirely justified as an adaptation.

The crucial part is he's SMART about honor and the narrative is balanced about portraying it's upsides, whereas it sometimes feels like Trek treats honor as a sort of eternal pouty teenage phase that grownups are supposed to grow up from even if the nonviolent alternatives ultimately lead to more problems.

The most notable instance of that paying off involved a species that up to then was depicted as worse than the Borg, and only happened because they were clumsily retconned to be nice and more fearful of humanity than the crew were of them after all.

I said that I haven't watched like, any amount of Star Trek to be considered meaningful. The very reason why I haven't watched it is so I can avoid getting angry at all the inconsistencies that I'd encounter if I watched it myself while having the cake of being able to enjoy that these characters are acting as paragons of some sort of ideal even if in reality they aren't. It's basically the antithesis to Star Trek on many philosophical levels apart from being a japanese wuxia puppet show with the puppets built by taiwanese traditinoal puppeteers, the writing done by Gen Urobuchi (the guy who did Madoka and Fate/Zero), and at least some of the characters inspired by a RPG campaign he ran years ago with Nasu and the Demonbane guy (apparently the nihilistic monk with the demon sword girlfriend in S2 is based on his player character. If it isn't clear, yes he was in fact the main villain)

I 100% know I have avoided something terrible by avoiding modern Star Trek. And I've only extracted the good for pre-Abrams Star Trek.

This whole discussion we're having here I can't exactly have with people I know who have been die-hard fans of Star Trek who've watched everything. I've gotten glazed-eye looks as I explained what I knew of Worf wanting a bit of pushback or confirmation when they just have no appreciation for the product on that level and they won't entertain that opinion coming from someone who hasn't even watched the show. There's a lack of critical thoroughness in fandoms, they're too religiously devoted the property to know what is good or bad about it. It's like how so many fans of Star Wars are more attached to lightsabers and space battles than anything else; Trekkies are likewise attached to visual elements or whatever it is rather than the idealistic portrayal of humanity in a post-scarcity world. And I'm not blaming people for just being devoted to the thing they like but it also signals to me that they can't tell me where the fuck to stop watching or that they'll vehemently disagree with me when I point out that it's gotten bad. While I know Star Trek has utterly gone to shit without observing it myself, most so-called fans lack the confidence or have committed the thought to be able to draw the line somewhere if they even think it's gone to shit at all.

I wish things didn't have to go like that but that's the media landscape we're in. Maintaining quality isn't a priority beyond the first couple seasons when people are stupid and hooked.

The concept of "Flanderization" should not be as common as it is but it is the fate of basically the bulk of media. Most people are more concerned about lightsaber fights as signals for quality rather than appreciating the complex matters and eventually the product becomes nothing but this flashing light display that's stripped of any narrative complexity it once had.

Look at Rick and Morty. Whatever you may think of it, it started as a parody of science fiction tropes that took the piss out of those ideas. You take a recent episode now and it's just a sitcom script about relationships with science fiction words thrown in here and there. Is this episode about dragons? No, it's an episode about sex that happens to involve dragons. So long as you put in some stupid space ship fight and things blowing up and weird slime visuals, the bulk of the audience loves it. But I don't.

I feel part of the original charm of Rick and Morty was that it had sitcom elements AND was a scifi parody, and balanced them reasonably well with a healthy dose of self-awareness. But over time it just feels like it got more out of touch and became the writers' hamfisted soapbox. I'm not just talking about the therapist from Pickle Rick, the story train thing feels like a very thinly veiled bad reaction to criticism and other than the dragon thing the Retaliators felt like someone higher up forced the writers to do an Avengers parody they really didn't want to.

I know for sure that Harmon soapboxes hard and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that in the writing room he approved of ideas based on whatever life experience he had or was pushing at the time. I felt like the formula in the early seasons was simple: take a scifi concept and target it for comedy, the interspersion of family dynamics I felt was good and as you said felt self-aware. But now the formula is certainly different, they target some stupid fucking sitcom conflict that we've seen a million times and THEN they try to shoehorn in some scifi trope to deliver it. Whether or not there's material to make fun of Avengers, if they were forced to do it they defaulted on some idiotic love triangle bullshit rather than think about something about superheroes worth making fun of. But I guess given that superhero stories are all about having sex with each other in-between blowing shit up it's possible that the Retaliators couldn't have been any better than it was, and it was terrible.

They didn't fight or anything, but I think that action said volumes. Hey, speaking of that arc-while I think he was basically the opposite case where everyone took it for a given he WAS absurdly badass I think Cat Master was a pretty good example for the original question's purpose too. He starts out being the "lowest tier" of devil yet somehow widely feared in Throne. He goes on to help the group bypass a countermeasure that nobody else had a solution to with his cats. And of course, he's one of the devils left standing after the heist.

Often a cover can show a representation of the character that shows them in a very idealized design and form that doesn't by any means show the character's full arc throughout the story. I've seen many examples of this in cape books where it might be a different artist from the interior work making a hotter, sleaker version of a hero that might not even be wearing the same costume as they are in the book.

Now with Abaddon being the same artist all throughout the series, covers included, like a manaka, he has an artistic license to display his own creations any way he wishes. Consider the possibility that if Solomon gets killed early on, that the cover for Breaker of Infinities could be showing us not only Solomon figuratively present with the other demiurges, but being dressed in clothes denoting his former glory while also being dwarfed by the very giant who quite possibly destroyed his capitol city be as much an indication of what is to come as what transpired in the realm of ideas.

Another example of a character showing up in a cover completely different from their major appearances in most of the books, aside from some older designs and flashbacks, is Gog-Agog's appearance on the cover of King of Swords. She looks like the Grim Reaper more than the clown she appears to be throughout all of the book 4, yet we know from a few flashbacks to millennia ago she was more horrific than jolly. The idea of what she is is more present on that cover than what she appears to be throughout the majority of the entire story. I'd like to see her in action in that reaper form myself, but whether or not it will ever happen might have passed, ages ago in the narrative.

I feel like we've been visually exposed already to the actual craziest forces in the universe already. Jag showing up or what he does won't actually represent an escalation in power much like Solomon Ki-Rata-ing all over the place wasn't the most crazy relatively speaking.

What I'm talking about is two things. Maya cutting through Jug - that wasn't as flashy as other things but the act of cutting is implied to be willing to cut no-exceptions. The second thing is White Chain's transformation, powered as well by her sheer will to change. While we can't presume White Chain can perform a will-powered stunt like that again like Maya can, I don't think we can presume Jag can do anything like it either although he will likely pulp Solomon without needing to do something like Maya can.

We know that the basis of the art is to lie to the universe. What Maya and White Chain did was lie as hard as we've seen, that this master-class "lying" serves as something that gets you really close to Royalty, which may or may not be the same thing. These two demonstrations of the greatest exertion of will are actually the craziest things we've seen.

It's possible the cubit spears wielded by Zoss and Allison are just as powerful but I think that's more like using YISUN's power of creation to destroy creation rather than telling the universe to go fuck itself and break according to your will.

Zuko's whole character arc was learning that you can be strong while not becoming a bad guy and that just following orders while ignoring your own concience doesnt mean you are a goodguy either

so the final battle between him and Azula represents him showing off that he achived both of those things and it fits the set up we have si?ce we were watching Zuko becoming rapidly stronger with every fight with the two previous duels with Azula clearly setting up the fact that specially after the dragons pulled his head out of his ass he is now stronger

but the more important part is his character growth that results in him becoming strong yet good person whos backbone would not crumble under the preassure of the crown
and to really showthat he needs to defeat Azula and then not kill her going against what both his uncle and hisfather would expect him to do in that moment
but the hack writters ruined the whole setup just to give their petcharacter something cool to do
and on top of that it meant that Aang had to unlock his powers by hitting a fucking rock

Okay, since we're entering the last book here, does anyone have any guesses on what kind of metatextual reality warping bs Abaddon is planning for the finale? It seems like he's been setting something up up between the lore of the KSBD universe and the nature of comics as a medium. Here's what I've been thinking:

1) YISUN is/was something like pure unmanifested creativity, "infinite stories to tell with no one to tell them to". YISUN divided into Ys and Un, IS and IS-NOT, who are black and white. They then give birth to all the gods, who in turn create all worlds and stories. I think has to do with the most fundamental form of comics, black lines on a white page. The black creates something which is divided off from the empty white space. Both black and white must be present for anything to exist. This basic paradigm gives birth to virtually infinte stories.

2) In-universe, we know that magic is called "The Art" and is an act of lying to the universe. There are three types of magic, White Magic (Division), Black Magic (Creation), and Red Magic (Alteration). Similarly to YS/Un I think this literally corresponds to drawing in black on a white page. "Red" Magic, then, is a stand-in for all color, which alters what had been put on the page in black and white. Also, KSBD's panel borders, which literally divide the page, have almost all been white.

3) I think the Zoss forcing the universe into an endless cycle where everyone is "trapped" has something to do with the nature of comics, in that the whole narrative arc is literally frozen in time. The reader can flip back and forth through the story and re-read it infinitely.

4) I'm not sure where Royalty fits into this, but when people understand the nature of the Universe (i.e. Aesma, Jadis, Zoss breaking into heaven and prying the names out of Metatron, etc.), I think it has something to do with understanding the nature of the comic itself.

Anyway, my point is that I think Abaddon's premise here is: What if enlightenment/understanding the nature of the universe/magic stuff happened in a universe that is literally a comic book? I think at the very least we're going to see some characters stepping out of the page/seeing panel borders/traveling through time by flipping through pages/some other shit like that.

I'm assuming they're meant to be parts of the Colosseum. If I remember correctly it was on its own little island in the bay, so the city proper was a good ways off. Probably isn't fairing all that well, though.

I'm pretty sure Solomon hasn't used his key once on-panel so far, things like turning all his attackers to jam in an instant were just ki-rata. Since the demiurges are supposed to be able to solo modern-or-higher tech planets without breaking a sweat I expect to see some seriously crazy stuff. I assume Jag nuking the coliseum was just a side effect of him turning up, not an attack at all.

As an adult however, I laugh at the Enterprise having such dogshit storage safety protocols. The Enterprise frequently winds up in combat (or anomalies) that violently shake the contents of the ship. I would hate to be the poor bastard that constantly has to fix those rooms later. OSHA is clearly more of an Earth concern.

It's weird. I spend a good bit of time on the smut boards and looking at all sorts of shit, but there's just something about Abby's style that lends a sort of uncomfortableness to his smut. May also just be that I'm hoisting him up on a pedestal because I like his comic, so seeing him draw smut just seems kinda sacrilegious.

Which WC did last chapter likely due to her love for and sheer desire to be more human than she previously was, and acting as human as she could.

I'm pretty excited to see the keys actually being used. Up until this point everyone was performing the various arts they had but not extremely juiced up by the keys - no need to play an ace when a four will do. Even Allison has only used her key sparingly: teleporting them out, cutting up Incubus, and headbutting the devil.

The time calls for aces and it's going to juice up the most powerful martial art in the universe, surpassing the fighting skills of even the angels.

I really hope the other demiurges show up, including Incubus maintaining the oath. I feel like Incubus will act in unity with the others and the agreement with Jag only extends so far in that he's saved for last. I hope they actually uphold the pact as Jadis has because villains and tyrants maintaining their promises like that is the best fucking thing in fiction.
