>>118126637I'm telling you this since the second season except with S1. Season 1 gave you the glimpses of something grand. Season 1 built up the world. Season 2 already heavily backpedaled on everything because a little girl show is simply not allowed to raise the stakes in a way we expected. Season 3 is just the natural course of backpedaling even more.
Season 1 was perfect because the setting was fitting for the build up. We got slice of life stories, character introductions, we didn't expect more than a cute princess show even after we got a lot of spooky scenes about something sinister. Rapunzel was pretty much grounded so it was okay everything was centered around Corona, a big city where anyone can show up any time. Ironically the first crack in this storyline is tied to the best twist episode in Disney history: Queen for a day. That is when everyone realized shit just got real and conveniently forgot the problem the series will always go back to in the future: forgetting important plot points. Varian got fucked over and there was absolutely no reason for Raps to forget him but she did.
S1 did the worst thing possible: gave us expectations for S2 and S3 when it became painfully obvious the series can't get over the constraints of repetitiveness. We have mostly slice of life episodes, aside from a few important scene those rarely and loosely tie to the main plot. Then we have 2 or maybe 3 dedicated plot episodes evenly distributed but these doesn't have effect on the normal episodes. One episode Raps is the death goddess, the next she forgot about it completely, in fact pretty much forever. Also taking the series out to the woods hurt the consistency a lot. Now anyone can turn up anywhere regardless of time or geographical distances.
