Artists rights and artists becoming superstars of the industry also meant a huge uprise in the "don't rush me, I'm the star" attitude among them. People deserve creative rights, sure, but ever since then there's this myth about comics that it's a pure artistry field, it's not a JOB. You don't have to work hard in comics because you're creating ART and you should get paid for it anyway. Compared to any other creative field (musicians, actors, performers) comics creators are some of the laziest, with the only people worse at producing at a good rate being really big-name writers.
There's this eternal myth that creatives aren't doing a job. They're doing all this because they love their art and their fans and they should be left alone. Back in the day that was tempered harshly with a strict requirement to also crank out material regularly, which is how it still is in Japan.
