Considering the cheap-looking housing and lifestyle, I'm gonna guess that they aren't that rich, maybe a couple of luxuries once in a while. Probably extra spending money goes towards the dolls. Maybe he makes some extra money selling them. She's essentially forced having to be with him in order to help keep up the family. She's stuck between a man-child and his dolls.
