Ehh The thing about cats is that natural selection goes hard on them. I've had cats disappear for months and return completely fine after ethnically cleansing the neighborhood all by themselves, and some that commit suicide by stupid if you stop looking at them for five minutes. I had a cat last 20 years and she was eerily smart and aware to the very end, and one that died a couple years in because the dumbass somehow forgot he was a cat and didn't land on his feet when he jumped off a table.
Cats breed a lot but they also die a lot, the death rate of newborn kittens is pretty high. Your first cat will probably be one of the winners and you'll assume they're all chill, independent and graceful, but when your family has generations of them and you keep burying the duds in your backyard you realize their evolutionary strategy is extreme darwinism.
