>>117788625You start to get problems though with the back and forth. If mind reading sucks too much you get something like Star Trek's empathy where it was pretty much useless because even if you just go "Yeah that dude's lying" that fucks up a lot of diplomacy plots.
Making telepathy take time and proximity and making you vulnerable works for single stories but I'd imagine it would be difficult to work that in as a character's ongoing thing without making it seem too much trouble to deal with writing wise.
But yeah it's very much a problem like how the X Men movies keep using quicksliver for a cool scene then getting rid of him as fast as possible, some powers are just so busted that the writers can't figure out how to make the plot interesting without either nerfing them into the ground or just removing the character from the action completely.
