>>117724442The "neurodiversity" movement preaches that Applied Behavioral Analysis training (A.B.A.) is harmful and abusive, and that autists should be allowed to "be themselves" and whatnot.
The movement is spearheaded by a bunch of autistic people who tend to have only extremely minor problems. These are people who can function perfectly fine without having undergone a day of therapy in their lives, and who don't understand just how debilitating this condition can be. So they and their well-meaning go around doing things like trying to brand Autism Speaks as a hate group.
It grinds my gears because I would be MUCH worse off were it not for these services. I would be sorting cans in a grocery store were it not for A.B.A. therapy. Instead, I'm coding things at a hedge fund. And they want to take that away from people like me.
Worst of all: I can't speak out against it without revealing my own status as a person on the spectrum. I've tried to talk about it before, but the response I keep getting is "Shut up! You don't know what it's like to have autism!" I'm literally not allowed to speak unless I enter into their oppression-olympics identity politics game.
