>Susie whimpered to herself as she stepped into her dinky apartment, soaking wet from the rain. She had forgot her umbrella and the bus home hit a flat, so she had been walking the rest of the way.

Her appearance was wholly unimpressive, the kind of mousy girl who nobody would give a second glance to. Susie would try to stand out at the office with small but nice little gestures. Fetching coffee, making cookies for the break room, and so on, but every time she did, she would never get so much as a thank you or even a smile of acknowledgement. And then that bitch Alyssa from upstairs would come out of nowhere and flaunt her moneymaker to take credit for Susie's little gestures.

She was working all day in Accounting trying to do her job and not cause problems, and then she tries to do something nice and gets nothing for it. Susie wanted to know when she would get her break in life, her chance to make people know her.
>Reaching into her pocket, Susie pulled out something she had found during her walk home: a pair of fancy sunglasses. They were just sitting there in a trashcan, overlooked by the bored and miserable people on the street. Susie had no idea why she stopped to pick them up. It was almost like they were calling for her. With a final sigh, Susie put the shades to her face, figuring it would probably be worth a laugh.
