Yes but it depends largely on the execution.
There's a reason you never see people complain about characters being horrible to each other in something like Invader Zim, or South Park but you do in Family Guy or the Bendy episode of Fosters.

For me "mean-spirited," isn't synonymous with edgy and having a character like OP's included in a show doesn't make it mean. The term should be used to describe the way the creators of the media treat their audience and other stories. For example The Boys is mean spirited because the whole point is that superheroes and people who enjoy superheroes are stupid. Rick and Morty is mean spirited when the writers take a swipe at people who watch it for enjoying the show.
