It's as if they were trying to establish some standards for objective writing but then it comes off as annoying and very transparent when someone's trying to pass of their opinion as fact. I remember one page had an example that devolved into two people trying to one up each other and every paragraph would start with "this troper..."

I remember there was a huge problem where people were adding Pony Show to every trope page imaginable, even if it didn’t show the trope. They would use justification like “oh it looks like they might be headed this way” or “yea so they could’ve used this trope but instead they used this one!”

Think they purged a lot of it and it’s still dominating the website.

It's not really a schism. White night assholes reported the site to Google, getting ads (and therefore revenue) pulled, and they were only put back after the admins agreed to make the site basically PG-13. All The Tropes is mostly handy for the pages that were purged to satisfy Google. Separately, the admins of TVTropes are cliquish assholes, and that drives people off, but that's not nearly a 1:1 "then they go to ATT" situation.

Fun for trivia or things you missed, but the autism and Gen Z wussiness of the editors shows more and more. Honestly, it's nice for succinct summaries of shows. It's just painfully obvious that certain writers on the site have a painful bias towards "Well, every show is OBVIOUSLY trying to pander to my weird fetishes so how do I shoehorn something completely mundane into a niche that I decided was canon?" thing going on.

Like, when someone is like "Well, character x was using an app called Bimble, which is clearly based off Bumble, but the icon looked like this completely unrelated app that's only for a specific niche of sexuality, based on the color palatte they chose so they don't get sued, so I'm going to slap 30 different tropes onto this that are all implying the main character is demisexual" or whatever- that's when it gets really fucking annoying.

But I've found a lot of stuff out about shows and comics that I missed on my first read/watch, and when I re-watch them and the scene thats being referred to happens, I'm like "wow, I really missed that the first time! Damn!"

TL;DR: it's a good resource for little easter eggs and basic summaries. That's kind of it.
